President Trump has had a very good week.
Tuesday night’s SOTU address succeeded beyond all expectations. It was emotional, courageous, compelling and expertly delivered, but best of all, Trump managed to manipulate Democrats into dropping their masks and revealing who they really are for all the world to see. Conservative pundit Pat Buchanan believes the President may have found the winning formula for 2020 and he just may be right.
In a speech notable for its powerful moments, Trump’s vow to prevent the US from becoming a socialist nation was one of the top takeaways.
Here, in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country. America was founded on liberty and independence — not government coercion, domination, and control. We are born free, and we will stay free. America will never be a socialist country.
The Democrats’ silence following this statement spoke volumes. Buchanan notes that, “For, as in the 1972 Nixon landslide, Democrats appear to be coming down with “McGovernism.””
The unveiling of AOC’s “Green New Deal” was greeted with derision by many. It’s nothing more than a poorly concealed power grab. Even Pelosi herself does not support it.
One of the best reactions to the initiative came from PJ Media’s Bryan Preston who said “AOC’s GND is DOA.”
Trump’s comments on abortion were received with the same stony silence by Democrats. Although many Americans are pro-choice, Buchanan points out that “only 13 percent of Americans believe in letting babies be aborted up to and through the ninth month of pregnancy.” Democrats’ recent boldness, or rather their increasing radicalism on abortion, will not be a winning issue for them. Trump said:
Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments before birth.
And then, we had the case of the governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb. Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life.
And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: All children — born and unborn — are made in the holy image of God.
My colleague, Brandon Morse, called out Nancy Pelosi for her hypocrisy on this topic in this post. She tweeted, “We have a moral responsibility to protect God’s creation for generations to come. That is why today, we named members to the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.” Hey Nancy, aren’t babies worthy of that same protection?
As the gifts kept rolling in, Trump’s week just kept getting better and better. Of course, we’ve watched the spectacle of the top three government officials in Virginia unfold. Amusingly, I learned from a Steven Crowder video that Gov. Northam’s college nickname was “Coonman.” I wonder how he earned such a nickname. Hmmm.
Elizabeth Warren became a laughingstock (again) as she tried to explain her claim of “American Indian” ethnicity to advance in the world of academia.
These were only two of many other embarrassments for the Dems this week.
The notable thing about Democrats is their inability to offer a complete and genuine apology. “I’m sorry I did this, but…” Everything which follows the word “but” serves to absolve them of wrongdoing. Note to Dems: People aren’t stupid.
Democrats have moved too far to the left too quickly. And rather than taking the majority of Americans with them on their odyssey, they are giving many voters whiplash.
We’re even starting to see signs of division between moderate Democrats and the newly emerging Democratic Socialist arm of the party. Hopefully, this will increase.
Buchanan asks, “In what states are infanticide and socialism winning issues?” Both are un-American.
Trump’s strong opposition to abortion (particularly late term abortion) and socialism just might provide “the winning formula for him in 2020.”
Buchanan may be on to something.
