The Irony of Fred Malek's American Action Network Attacks

As I mentioned this morning former McCain National Finance Co-Chairman Fred Malek’s group, American Action Network, is running ads attacking conservative congressmen for not funding Obama’s executive amnesty.

Everyone knows the attacks are coordinated on behalf of [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ]. They are not even trying to hide it. The head of the group is the former head of the National Republican Congressional Committee. The head of the group before that was the head of the NRCC too. The head of the group before that was Rob Collins, now at the NRSC, but previously on Team Cantor.

The ties are too deep to House leadership for them to even deny it and the attacks come as even the Wall Street Journal suggests it is time for Boehner to go.

So the deep irony is this. They are attacking conservatives in very conservative districts claiming these conservatives are helping terrorists. The attacks are really about these conservatives refusing to fund executive amnesty. The net result is that these conservatives are now forced to continue opposing amnesty on principle. They cannot let Boehner win on this one now with dishonest attacks or they will fuel more attacks on themselves by the same group.

But there is more to it than that. Several of the congressmen being attacked came under withering fire from their constituents for voting for [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] for Speaker. They’d campaigned against him as Speaker. Then they voted for him.

Fred Malek and the American Action Network’s attacks make it even more likely that conservatives launch a coup against [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ].
