Stand with Ted Cruz Against Iran Making a Terrorist its UN Ambassdor

Iran, being the ever-present thorn in our side that it is, has decided that Hamid Aboutalebi should be its next UN Ambassador. It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that Mr. Aboutalebi has a shady past, to say the least. In fact, he was connected to the 1979 Tehran Embassy Takeover should be its next UN Ambassador. . As the International Business Times notes:

The government has applied for a U.S. visa for Hamid Aboutalebi, who has already served as ambassador to Belgium and Italy, Bloomberg reported Saturday. He was a member of the Muslim Students Following the Imam’s Line (referring to the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini), the group that seized the U.S. Embassy on Nov. 4, 1979, and held American staff hostage until Ronald Reagan’s inauguration in 1981.

For those of you who don’t quite understand, this means that a man we know was involved in the perpetration of a terrorist act against the United States could be setting foot on our soil someday soon as Iran’s UN Ambassador, a position that includes diplomatic immunity from all arrest. This is a smack in the face to the United States. I suspect as well that the Iranian government knows they can get away with this kind of insult to us because the Obama administration has a history of letting these things happen.

Senator Ted Cruz wants to stop this. He has filed S. 2195, an act that would prevent known terrorists from entering the United States to serve as UN Ambassadors. In a press release announcing the act, Cruz stated:

“It is unconscionable that, in the name of international diplomatic protocol, the United States would be forced to host a foreign national who showed a brutal disregard for the status of our diplomats when they were stationed in his country,” Sen. Cruz said.

His press release also gives us this video of him announcing the bill:

Call your Senator and tell him or her to stand with Senator Cruz. A known terrorist should never be a UN Ambassador.
