#RSG14: Scott Turner, Texas House of Representatives

Texas has given us a lot of great fresh conservative Republican faces over the past few years. I think it’s fair to add Scott Turner to this list. He is a member of the Texas House of Representatives from the 33rd District. Some of you might recognize him from his playing days in the NFL, where he spent time with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and the Denver Broncos. He also made an unsuccessful run for California’s 50th Congressional District in the 2006 special election to fill it after Duke Cunningham resigned in disgrace.

Now he’s a rising star for the Republican Party in the Texas Legislature. Next term, he plans to challenge longtime Speaker Joe Straus for that spot. Turner would be a vast improvement over Straus, and RedState has done a lot to cover conservatives’ problem with the latter.

Scott Turner also stands as one more piece of evidence against the claim that the Republican Party isn’t diverse enough, but he speaks about values that are timeless and common to all people. He is an inspiring speaker, and his speech will bring to mind some of the best sermons given by Southern Baptist preachers many of us heard growing up.

So, give his speech a listen. You won’t regret it.
