Leon Panetta: I told the White House Benghazi was a Terror Attack

My Front Page colleague streiff has already written about what Leon Panetta said about Iraq in his book, but the revelations don’t stop there. He also wrote about Benghazi, and his account does not paint a favorable picture of the rest of the White House. Yesterday, he appeared on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, where he discussed his book, including what he said about Benghazi. National Review gives us the video:

As Panetta told General Petraeus, “[W]hen you bring…grenade launchers to a demonstration, there’s something else going on.”

Over the past few years, Leon Panetta has proven that he is at least capable of honesty and independent thought when compared to the rest of the administration he served. He is a Clinton man, though, so he might have an axe to grind. Regardless of his motivations, what he’s said is yet more confirmation of what we’ve understood from the start: the Benghazi attacks were more than mere spontaneous demonstrations. Benghazi was a deliberate attack by terrorists on our interests, facilities, and citizens in Libya. With the House Benghazi hearings going on right now, it’s as important as ever to keep the pressure on the Obama administration over this attack. I don’t know what Panetta thinks of the House committee, but his account is even more evidence that it was necessary to form it.
