President Obama stated unequivocally he had no knowledge of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State. During an appearance on ’60 Minutes’ last October, the President was didn’t parse words. He didn’t issue a non-denial, denial. He flat out said “No” when asked if he knew of her server. Watch:
We now know this to be a lie. Why? Because Obama sent emails to the clintonemail.com address Hillary used, under a pseudonym. From Politico:
President Barack Obama used a pseudonym in email communications with Hillary Clinton and others, according to FBI records made public Friday.
The disclosure came as the FBI released its second batch of documents from its investigation into Clinton’s private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.
In an April 5, 2016 interview with the FBI, Abedin was shown an email exchange between Clinton and Obama, but the longtime Clinton aide did not recognize the name of the sender.
“Once informed that the sender’s name is believed to be pseudonym used by the president, Abedin exclaimed: ‘How is this not classified?'” the report says. “Abedin then expressed her amazement at the president’s use of a pseudonym and asked if she could have a copy of the email.”
President Obama is not stupid. He had to know this server was not a secure, State Department server. Two things stand out:
- If the President thought he was emailing somebody on a secure server, why on earth would he have to use a pseudonym? It’s not as though he was trying to send explicitly sexual photos to somebody ala ‘Carlos Danger’ (Anthony Weiner) or hiding who he was while checked into a facility to treat STD’s ala ‘Ron Mexico’ (Michael Vick).
- President Obama has portrayed himself as the tech savvy President. Wouldn’t he wonder why an email he was sending to Hillary was not going to a state.gov address and to clintonemail.com? I find it very difficult to believe he didn’t know. See point 1 as to why.
With Obama on his way out and the presidential race expected to heat up starting just after the first presidential debate, I don’t expect this to go anywhere. Both the White House and Hillary will continue to point to the FBI “clearing” her as means of deflecting attention away from this development.
Still, it is yet another example where President Obama and Hillary bragging about their supposed “transparency” falls completely flat. It’s almost as if they are flaunting the way they can get away with such behavior.
