President Obama Urged Hillary Clinton To Concede On Election Night

When John Podesta stepped up to the microphone on election night and not Hillary Clinton, it was obvious to anybody watching she was not going to concede the election. Granted, at that point, the election had not been called for either candidate, but the writing was on the wall. It was only a matter of time before one of the networks or news organizations called it for Trump.

It turns out the AP did just that, calling the race for Trump about 30 minutes after Podesta left the stage. We now have word that it was a phone call from Barack Obama, who convinced Hillary Clinton to place the call to Donald Trump to congratulate him on winning the presidential race:

“You need to concede,” Obama told his former secretary of State as she, her family, and her top aides continued to watch results trickle in from the key Rust Belt states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. The latter state, called after 1:30 a.m. by The Associated Press, was the clear tipping point for the White House race, ensuring Trump would crest over the 270 electoral-vote threshold needed to win.

Clinton ultimately heeded Obama’s advice and called Trump to acknowledge her defeat in the early morning hours Wednesday.

Of course, the new hotness is now the unsubstantiated rumor the vote tallies in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania was tampered with, so Hillary is being urged to file for a recount. Because voter fraud is only a thing when Democrats lose.

Barack Obama wanted Hillary to concede and doesn’t want a recount fight and why not? He wants the final 45 days or so of his presidency to go smoothly. The last thing he wants to do is be answering questions on behalf of a recount fight that looks like sour grapes on the part of the loser.
