The worst thing about the Super Bowl were the ads. They were just lame. You know how it’s true? Hardly anybody was talking about tv ads on social media. They were lame and forgettable. Aside from when the Giants beat the Patriots (twice) in the Super Bowl, I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed the experience from start to finish.

The game opened with former President George H.W. Bush at the age of 92 and recently released from the hospital, doing the coin toss. The former President and former First Lady Barbara Bush received a standing ovation from the crowd and applause from the players and coaching staffs of both the Patriots and the Falcons.

As halftime approached, there was a slew of buzz about whether or not Lady Gaga, a professed liberal, was going to engage in any political activities during her halftime show. I confess that I am not a fan of her music, but she is a very talented musician, singer, and performer. I decided to watch out of curiosity to see how it went and sufficed to say; it was one of the best half-time shows I’ve seen. People are stretching to say she got political because she performed Woody Guthrie’s ‘This Land Is Your Land’ and her hit song, ‘Born This Way.’ But that’s absurd. She also cited the pledge of allegiance which is about as patriotic as one can get. Most people couldn’t tell you about the background of Guthrie’s song and ‘Born This Way’ is one of her biggest hits.

And that game. That freaking game.

I don’t want to be in the shoes of Atlanta Falcons fans today. That had to hurt and hurt badly. I’ve always said I’d rather my team gets blown out than lose a nailbiter. When the Giants got demolished by the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XXXVII, it didn’t hurt too much because the Giants never had a chance. To be up 28-3 in the Super Bowl and lose? Heartbreaking.

For football fans with no vested interest in either team, they were treated to the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history. It was a great evening from start to finish. Even the casual fan was treated to something special. The Super Bowl lived up to the hype. What made it special is there was no politics, and that’s something to celebrate.

So thank you President and First Lady Bush. Thank you, Lady Gaga. Thank you, New England Patriots. Thank you, Atlanta Falcons Thanks to you all for one of the best Super Bowls of all time.
