She just can’t help herself. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is once again trying to use the coronavirus outbreak to inject false accusations of bigotry into the conversation.

This time, the representative blamed President Donald Trump’s supposed xenophobia for making residents of the most affected areas of New York City too scared to work. It appears that the “blame everything on Trump” tactic hasn’t yet gotten old.

On Saturday, she posted a series of tweets explaining how Trump’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak is xenophobic and racist and stuff. First, she retweeted a post about street vendors finding ways to work while still practicing social distancing and asserted that people “are too scared to go to the hospital & continue to work bc of Trump’s xenophobic COVID response.”

Of course, the notion that Trump targeted the Asian community in his rhetoric is laughable; He, and others accurately linked the outbreak to China because it originated in its Wuhan province. Her argument in this regard is just a continuation of the effort to make anyone talking about China appear to be racist.

As far as the CARE act and immigrants, the legislation was passed by both Republicans and Democrats. Trump just signed it into law. Of course, we all know that AOC and her ilk are only upset about the fact that the stimulus package will not send funds to illegal immigrants.

Nevertheless, there is nothing xenophobic about a nation taking care of its citizens. The government is not obligated to provide for non-citizens and it certainly is not required to ensure that lawbreakers receive funds.

Overall, Ocasio-Cortez’s arguments all add up to “Trump’s a bigot because he won’t offer federal benefits to illegal immigrants.” And for some reason, this is making people afraid to do their jobs or go to the hospital, according to the lawmaker.

AOC’s asinine arguments aside, it is not likely that the supposed fear that is keeping residents from going to the hospital has anything to do with the president.  Perhaps it has more to do with the fact that the Corona neighborhood has seen some of the highest numbers of coronavirus-related deaths in the entire city.

Unfortunately, people like Ocasio-Cortez are more concerned with using COVID-19 as a political than they are with helping to alleviate the situation. Perhaps AOC should focus more on the large numbers of black and Hispanic Americans who are dying in her district instead of trying to figure out new and interesting ways to score cheap political points.
