CNN has obtained a copy of a letter sent by Christine Blasey Ford’s attorneys to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the ranking members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, requesting an FBI investigation into the “incident” Ford claims occurred between herself and Judge Brett Kavanaugh some 35 years ago.

They want this investigation done before any further hearings are conducted, claiming that “six short days” isn’t enough time for Ford to prepare in light of threats she’s received since going public.

While Dr. Ford’s life was being turned upside down, you and your staff scheduled a public hearing for her to testify at the same table as Judge Kavanaugh in front of two dozen U.S. Senators on national television to relive this traumatic and harrowing incident. The hearing was scheduled for six short days from today and would include interrogation by Senators who appear to have made up their minds that she is  “mistaken” and “mixed up.”

As the Judiciary Committee has recognized and done before, an FBI investigation of the incident should be the first step in addressing her allegations. A full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and that the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions.

Obviously televised testimony in such an atmosphere would be anxiety-inducing for anyone, and according to the letter Ford’s family has had to leave their home and essentially go into hiding. But, it would seem they’d want this nightmare over as soon as possible.

In addition, the FBI has already declined to investigate the matter, saying they have no jurisdiction over any matters alleged.
