It might sound appealing to some but it’s actually a chilling sentiment coming from a man running for president.
In Bangor, Maine, Trump struck a nationalistic and patriotic tone with supporters, telling them “imagine what our country could accomplish if we started working together as one people, under one God, saluting one American flag.”
One people? Yes. Sign me up.
Saluting one American flag? Absolutely.
Under one God though? Which one? Coming from an enthusiastic evangelist speaking to members of his own faith that might sound like a reasonable goal but from a presidential candidate? Not so much.
How would this work? Would we have to deport all the Buddhists, Sikhs, Hindus, atheists, etc? Oddly, Trump’s “under one God” statement came right after a promise to be a president for all Americans.
