Outrageous: SF City Attorney Sues Trump, Says Sanctuary City Order 'Defies the Principle of Federalism'

San Francisco is suing the Trump administration over the President’s executive order denying federal funds to “sanctuary cities” who protect illegal aliens in defiance of federal immigration law.

The city of San Francisco filed a lawsuit Tuesday challenging President Trump’s executive order that directs the federal government to withhold money from so-called sanctuary cities that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agents.

The lawsuit, filed by San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera in U.S. District Court in Northern California, marks the first court challenge over the sanctuary order filed by one of the targeted cities since Trump unveiled his order last week.

There may be some issues with the legality of the order, but filing a lawsuit displays an extraordinary amount of chutzpah. The President signed an executive order in direct response to an open refusal to cooperate with federal law and you sue him? One could almost admire this if San Francisco wasn’t for all intents and purposes harboring criminals. Controlling immigration and naturalization is one of the few things the federal government is supposed to do according to the Constitution and sanctuary cities openly hinder that function.

These leftists have an amazing ability to stay on message even when the message is a lie. One would think that once in a while they might accidentally acknowledge that there is a big difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien. Yet they flawlessly conflate immigrant and illegal alien in all circumstances. It’s like they are programmed. City Attorney Dennis Herrera even invokes their cult leader.

“The president’s executive order is not only unconstitutional, it’s un-American,” Herrera said. “That is why we must stand up and oppose it. We are a nation of immigrants and a land of laws. We must be the ‘guardians of our democracy’ that President Obama urged us all to be in his farewell address.”

Obama isn’t president anymore, Dennis. Accept it. While he’s still apparently following Obama’s orders, Herrera actually claims that Trump’s executive order goes against the principle of federalism.

“This lawsuit is not a step I take lightly,” said Herrera, who argues that the order defies the principle of federalism as laid out in the Constitution . “But it is one that is necessary to defend the people of this city, this state and this country from the wild overreach of a president whose words and actions have thus far shown little respect for our Constitution or the rule of law.”

This is outrageous. I’m sure Herrera didn’t care about the Constitution or the rule of law when President “pen and a phone” Obama was disregarding them.

Trump’s executive order may not be the way to do it, but something needs to be done about these cities who refuse to cooperate with immigration law. They can invoke the Constitution all they want but the refusal is based entirely on their left wing ideology.

Being a “nation of immigrants” doesn’t cancel out the fact that we are also a nation of laws.
