Wait, What? Zuckerberg May Be Under a Fatwa

Unless you’ve been living under a rock – or you’re a man-baby who retreated to a pig farm and cut off all communications after Trump’s election – you know that come-to-life Commander Data replica Mark Zuckerberg has been testifying before Congress this week.

A lot of people are royally ticked off at the billionaire and his company. There is no shortage of people who would love to see him and his gazillion page user agreements go down in flames.

But in some places, the sentiment is much more…pronounced.

Like Iran, where apparently the Ayatollah Khamenei has issued a fatwa against Zuckerberg, though perhaps not by name.

On Wednesday, Iran’s ruling Imam addressed government officials about the dangers of social media and declared invading the privacy of social media users to be in violation of Islamic law. The state media reported the details.

While meeting with a group of government managers and officials on April 9, 2018, Ayatollah Khamenei announced a fatwa regarding the privacy of users on social media networks and internet messengers:

“The officials must safeguard the people’s and the country’s security and privacy. Invading the privacy and security of the people is religiously forbidden, and against the Islamic law and must not be undertaken.”

Hilariously, the Ayatollah’s fatwa was also sent out via his twitter account.
