Marco Rubio was on Face the Nation today and faced a question from an incredulous host about how and why he would even think about buying a gun on Christmas Eve. Watch the video here:

Host: There’s been a lot of people buying firearms recently, and you bought one on Christmas Eve. Why?

Rubio: Well, first of all, I’m not home very often, so that’s one of the few times that I was there. Second, I have the right to protect my family. And that’s why I was previously a firearm owner, this was an additional one. And again, I think many Americans around the country feel the same way.

I’m personally at a loss as to why this is an issue at all. I received a gun as a gift last Christmas, and was extremely thankful to get it. There aren’t many people on my Christmas list who are budgeted to receive a gift large enough for me to get them a decent gun, but for anyone who was, I would certainly consider that as one of the possible gifts I would get that person.

I’m kind of shocked at the hypocrisy of people who quite frankly don’t care a fig about Christmas being the day we celebrate Christ’s birth in literally any other context, and who scold anyone who says “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays” trying to lecture Marco Rubio about the impropriety of purchasing a gun to defend his family on Christmas Eve. What’s even more insulting is that they think gun owners and supporters of the Second Amendment aren’t smart enough to figure this out.
