UPDATE: Word is that the Democrats have dropped the primary winner and will now go with the ‘independent’ candidate.

If this is true, it represents a) a definite trend in Democrats treating their formal primaries as meaningless technicalities and b) a state of hyper-panic among Democratic operatives across the country.
