Not Good: Rice Told NPR in Jan. Obama Admin. Removed 'Chemical Weapons' From Syria

Late Thursday night, president Trump approved missile strikes against the Assad regime in Syria in response to their most recent chemical weapon attacks on civilians this week.

The president has received a lot of support for ordering the strike, including an endorsement from the Obama administration.

Tony Blinken, the former Deputy National Security Advisor to the Obama Administration, said on CNN on Thursday night that Trump “did absolutely the right thing” with his decision to order the airstrikes.

Here’s the most important question of all: didn’t the Obama administration claim they removed all of the chemical weapons stockpiles in Syria from the Assad regime?

Susan Rice, the former National Security Advisor to Obama, gave an interview with NPR in January 2017 where she was boasting how the administration successfully removed the chemical weapons in Syria:

We were able to find a solution that didn’t necessitate the use of force that actually removed the chemical weapons that were known from Syria, in a way that the use of force would never have accomplished. Our aim in contemplating the use of force following the use of chemical weapons in August of 2013 was not to intervene in the civil war, not to become involved in the combat between Assad and the opposition, but to deal with the threat of chemical weapons by virtue of the diplomacy that we did with Russia and with the Security Council. We were able to get the Syrian government to voluntarily and verifiably give up its chemical weapons stockpile.

The problems in the Middle East far outweigh one administration, but lying about actions that have major consequences should never be tolerated.

Rice stated just three months ago that the Obama administration were verrifiably able to secure the chemical weapons stockpile from Syria. That’s either wildly misleading or a lie.

Between her statements on Benghazi, her denial that she was involved with the unmasking of Trump transition officials in intelligence reports, and now this — Rice has a credibility problem, and we cannot ignore it.
