Both the Republicans and the Democrats appear set to nominate incredibly unlikable people, who are both so well known that they have little chance of becoming more liked during the Presidential campaign.

It’s so bad, that Americans are starting to look at Barack Obama, and think he’s not so bad, compared with who will come next.

After the President’s honeymoon at the start of the second term, his polling was pretty bad. By June 2013 it looked like his numbers would be underwater for good. For about two and a half years he stayed roughly in a band between -5 and -10. Then the Presidential election came.

At the start of 2016 he stood at -8. Over the course of this year, as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have gradually secured the support of their parties, so too has Barack Obama gained the support of the country. We’ve seen nearly a complete reversal, going from -8 to +5 over the last 6 months:

And now, as of this weekend, Obama has gotten back to over 50% approval, figures he hasn’t seen in years.

That’s how bad Trump and Clinton are. They’re making Obama look good!
