As they wrapped the final moments for each side before they close out the Senate impeachment trial, there was a moment that some are already calling one for the ages.

Chief Justice John Roberts asked for a response to the President’s counsel on the last question of the evening, “Could you please respond to the answer just given by the President’s counsel and provide any other comments the Senate would benefit from hearing before we adjourn for the evening?”

At that moment, impeachment manager Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) jumped up and moved quickly to the podium to give the last word of the proceeding.

House Intel Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA), the primary impeachment manager, got up and tried to call him back, saying audibly loudly on the mic: “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!” He clearly wanted to be the one to have the last word.

But Schiff failed, Nadler kept on and was not to be deterred. He then delivered an absolutely horrific droning long-winded response.

The incident was roundly mocked on social media and sparked a lot of humor.

Dems ask for a closing statement on the night. Nadler, clearly fed up, jumps to his feet and scurries to the mic, ignoring audible protests of lead manager Schiff.

Then Nadler gives a terrible lecturing close.

Only appropriate. It started as a circus, it should end with one. Perfect coup de grace for Adam Schiff, he doesn’t get the last word and goes down in ignominious defeat.
