The latest rough patch for CNN illustrates the two contradictions at the network’s heart. In a brutal time for the news business, CNN is one of the few media organizations thriving while its most visible part in the United States, prime-time on the flagship network, is hurting. The company has built its brand on nonpartisan reporting, while CNN’s audience tilts Democratic as much or more as Fox News Channel’s audience is Republican. (AP Photo/Ric Feld, File)

CNN in a “fact check” posted this tweet on Thursday, declaring that President Donald Trump “falsely claims former FBI Director James Comey admitted to leaking.”

We have to “fact check” the alleged fact checkers.

Of course, this tweet itself is false, as Comey himself testified before Congress and admitted that he leaked through a friend to the New York Times to get a Special Counsel appointed to go after Trump.

But who better to call out CNN than…CNN?

How ridiculous are they? Apparently even CNN doesn’t read CNN.

Then they tried to cover their tracks, “clarifying” that what they meant to say that Trump falsely accused Comey of admitting to leaking to Grassley. So they stuck the “to Grassley” on the end of it to try to clean it up and it just makes them look even sillier.

Comey leaked and admitted it. Why is this hard for them? The only people who seem to need a fact check here are CNN. But if we did that on everything they said, we’d never get to cover any other news because that’s all we’d end up doing.
