Senator Menendez Should Face Justice Regardless of Motive

So The Department of Justice is prepared to throw down on Senator Bob Menendez. CNN describes the effort to fumigate one of the New Jersey Senate seats of a particularly corrupt human being.

The Justice Department is preparing to bring criminal corruption charges against New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez, a Democrat, alleging he used his Senate office to push the business interests of a Democratic donor and friend in exchange for gifts.

There are those who say that this is a politically motivated persecution motivated by the President’s resentment of Sen. Menedez standing up for Israel and harshly criticizing the Obama Administration initiative to normalize US relations with Cuba. I agree with these critics. I furthermore agree with Senator Menedez that Israel is a better international partner than either Hamas or Hezbollah. Yes, the current theocratic government of Iran pretty much sucks. They sincerely believe when they pray “Death to America.” And furthermore, [mc_name name=’Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000639′ ] makes an intelligent point when he objects to having the US either barter or truck with a living relative of Fidel Castro. However, Menendez deserves to go down like the Andrea Dora. Good on Sec. Holder for attempting to torpedo this particular Bismark of political sleaze.

While I appreciate the fact that he is nice to Israel and wants to give Cuba a condign switch across the butt, I am well aware that a lot of people have what they consider probable cause to accuse the senator of influence peddling and sexual tourism to The Dominican Republic to enjoy the pleasures of adolescent girls for money. This would be sick on at least two levels. We look down on primitive villagers in Yemen who have their way with young girls. It doesn’t look completely ingenuous if we criticize the Yemeni and then knowingly allow the continued presence of Pedophiles in The US Senate. We can’t prove [mc_name name=’Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000639′ ] did these things, but we do owe it to the taxpayer to give it a good, hard-nosed investigation.

Oh, and the Good Senator had a corrupt eye doctor paying his freight to the tune of almost $60,000 when he flew down South to rob the cradle in a 3rd World Country. This is not acceptable, regardless of how he stands on US-Iranian-Israeli relations. In fact, it could harm Israel if he skates and people claim he walked because of the “Kosher-Nostra.” Thus, the proper stature here is not to defend the potentially corrupt and despicable Menendez from legal jeopardy if it is highly possible that he accepts illegal plane tickets to fly to a poverty-stricken country and use its teenage girls as sexual playthings.

What we do instead is applaud Eric Holder whether we like the guy or not. Then, once we’ve finished clapping, let’s have a chat with the DOJ about the no-bid contracts won by the husbands of [mc_name name=’Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M001170′ ] and [mc_name name=’Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’F000062′ ]. There’s also this guy in Nevada, Reid I believe his name is…What’s the deal on his ability to make DHS give out EB5 immigration visas? Since DOJ is back on the job of mucking out the Augean Stables on The Potomac, aren’t these all good additional discussions we could have? Thus it is not only savvy politics, but also decent moral rectitude to let Eric Holder execute the prosecution of the Senator from New Jersey if [mc_name name=’Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000639′ ] has done something worthy of legal condemnation.
