Yesterday, I wrote about Rep. Max Rose (D-NY-11) blasting fellow Democratic freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (NY-14) Green New Deal in a recent interview, saying “nothing about what I just said would provide a justification for a massive socialist economic policy platform. Just not needed.”

As it turns out, another Democratic House member is not thrilled with the growing socialistic wing of her party, a wing that is being led by Ocasio-Cortez and 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

The DC Examiner reports:

“I am offended by this whole conversation about socialism,” said Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla. “The idea that in the greatest democracy, the greatest capitalist system in the world, we’re having casual conversation about socialism, offends me.”

Murphy (D-FL-7) made the remarks at a legislative seminar on Tuesday in Washington, DC.

Also according to the Examiner, Murphy – who didn’t mention Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders outright – called herself a “proud capitalist” and went on to explain her love of capitalism:

“It is the system that built us the greatest nation and the greatest economy in the world. Sure, we have to fix the inequities that exist in our system. We have to make sure everybody, no matter what zip code they’re born in, has a fair shot,” Murphy said. “But it is not the moment to undo the whole system and embrace something that Americans have spent blood and treasure fighting to save other countries from.”

Murphy, the first Vietnamese American woman in Congress, said her disdain for socialism is a result of growing up in a country that adhered to that style of government. She immigrated as a refuge to the U.S. with her family as a baby.

Murphy has represented Florida’s 7th Congressional District since 2017, after she defeated longtime Republican Rep. John Mica in a surprising upset.

In related news, House Republicans have formed an “Anti-Socialism Caucus”:

The war against socialism has officially been declared. By Republicans and Democrats. Heh.
