2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden did a wide-ranging interview this week with CNN’s Chris Cuomo which aired earlier this morning. Among the topics discussed were the war of words between his campaign and the Sen. Kamala Harris (CA) campaign which have escalated since last week’s debate, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and – of course – President Trump.

During the interview, Biden veered off on a rant about NATO and how in his view if Trump is reelected, NATO will cease to exist. Towards the end of the segment, he talked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s election interference in other countries and how it “wouldn’t, didn’t” happen on his [Biden’s and Obama’s] watch here:

“Why did we set up NATO, Chris? So no one nation could abuse the power in the region, in Europe, that would suck us in in the way that they did in World War One and World War Two. It’s being crushed,” he said.

Foreign policy has long been viewed as one of Biden’s strengths. He has extensive experience in the area from working in the Obama administration, as well as serving as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Biden pointed to Russia’s growing influence in the west through election meddling and called out the country’s President Vladimir Putin.

“While Putin is trying to undo our elections, he is undoing elections in Europe,” he said. “Look what’s happened in Hungary. Look what’s happened in Poland. Look what’s happened in Moldova. Look what’s happening. Do you think that would happen on my watch or Barack’s watch? [You can’t answer that but I promise you it wouldn’t have, and it didn’t.]

Watch Biden’s remarks below:

Fox News provided a handy fact check for the former veep:

Biden’s remarks were swiftly rejected on social media — given that the intelligence community determined Russia did try to interfere in the 2016 election, during the Obama administration when he was vice president. Then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe was launched the following year with the mission of determining whether Trump associates colluded with Russia as part of that effort, though the investigation did not turn up evidence of a criminal conspiracy.

Also, though there have been a lot of tweets contradicting Biden on his claim, this one is short, sweet, to the point and sums it up best:

Someone might wanna clue Biden in on this before the next series of debates, because people are gonna have questions…
