Progressive Democrats have been pushing Medicare For All, the new iteration of single-payer health insurance, with renewed urgency following the failure of Obamacare. Because recent reports indicate Medicare For All would cost upwards of $20 trillion over the next 10 years, many leading Democrat candidates who have already declared their candidacy for president in 2020 have been reluctant to discuss cost. Some, like California Senator Kamala Harris, have even gone so far as to deny that the program is a socialist program. Harris made this claim despite the program’s Democratic Socialist champions such as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
