Adam Schiff: The Memo Will Keep People From Ratting Out Their Neighbors to the FBI

When we last encountered Adam Schiff he was laying waste to the evil and conniving Devin Nunes and being cheered on by people who, ironically, call themselves conservative.

Today, Mr. Bugeyes was on This Week and he predicted Armageddon because the FBI used a flimsy piece of evidence to con a FISA court into permitting surveillance of an American citizen. Let me rephrase that. Schiff was not concerned in the least by the grotesque abuse of power. He was concerned about the abuse being revealed.

SCHIFF: Well, I don’t think it’s working in the sense that people have a lot of confidence in Bob Mueller. But it is impeaching the FBI, and the problem with this, and this is I think at the heart of the department’s concern, is if you have a neighbor who is buying fertilizer, lots of fertilizer, but has no yard and you have concerns about it and you want to call the FBI, you’re now going to wonder, is that FBI going to hold my name in confidence or this information in confidence? What if this becomes politicized? Sources are going to dry up because of what the Republicans on this committee are doing now.

There’s a compact between our committee and the intelligence community. You give us your deepest-held secrets, we will hold them in good confidence, we won’t abuse them. [I think I just peed myself a little bit while laughing.] They’re going to share a lot less with us now and other sources of information are going to decide not to share with the FBI because they can’t rely on our committee not to be partisan in the handling of that information, and that’s a deep disservice which ultimately makes the country less safe.

For the life of me I really don’t know how this works.

I don’t trust law enforcement. Why? Because I know they are bureaucracy driven by their own incentives, good and perverse. Public safety is A concern at some level but LEO saftey, avoiding adverse publicity, and making arrests all trump, if you will, public safety in all by the most extraordinary circumstances. If you don’t know that you need to step back and take a deep breath. I cooperate with law enforcement to the extent required by law and beyond that, to the extent I deem wise and prudent.

There is no doubt that the Nunes memo was a political act. But, in terms of politicizing the FBI, it is dwarfed to nothingness by the actions of James Comey, Andrew McCabe, and their inner circle who seem to be actively working on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s election.
