Why Would a Democrat Senator Want the Special Counsel to Hold His Report Until After the 2018 Elections?

Senator Bob Casey was on the John Catsimatidis Show on New York radio station AM 970 earlier today. Casey was doing the expected bitching about the budget deal and about the failure of the Senate to pass the huge “bipartisan” amnesty bill. Then the topic turned to the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller

“I don’t think we’ll know anywhere near the full story until [Mueller] issues his report,” Casey said. “But once you get into the summer, and you get close to the election, I think it’s a mistake for him to release it late. I think you should wait until after [the election]” Casey said.

The first question that comes to mind is why would a Democrat senator not want the investigation results released close to election time? Considering the time and effort that has gone into trying to convince us that the Trump administration is in cahoots with Russia, why wouldn’t he want this before the voters in September/October? Why wouldn’t he want voters fully aware of this as they vote? Maybe I’m cursed with lack of imagination but I can’t come up with any reason. (And if Mueller is not still on the job five years from now chasing down Corey Lewandowski’s unpaid parking tickets, I’ll be shocked.)

I can think of one very good reason for a Democrat senator not wanting the report out before the election…
