Just a short while ago, Russia vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that would have kicked off a UN investigation of the chemical attack in Syria over the weekend. The vote was twelve in favor, China abstained, Bolivia voted no, and Russia cast its veto.

Two points here. The US has done an amazing diplomatic job of pulling the UNSC through this. Nikki Haley and State have been rock stars. The China abstention, in particular, is a huge blow to Russia as now it stands alone in defending Assad. The second point is obvious. We’ve done all we can with diplomacy. It’s time to give war a chance.
