The Democrats are throwing a Hail Mary pass in Kentucky to try to unseat Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. As they’ve done so often in recent years, to immunize themselves from completely plausible accusations of anti-Americanism and rank cowardice, they went for someone with “veteran” in their resume. They chose Amy McGrath. McGrath is the quintessential astroturf candidate. She was recruited and funded by California Progressives to run against Representative Andy Barr in Kentucky’s second most liberal congressional district in 2018 and was soundly spanked.

Yesterday, fundraising totals from Third Quarter became available and even though they show McConnell and McGrath neck-and-neck in fundraising, it is in the itemized contributions, that is contributions above $200, that shows the degree to which Amy McGrath is the creature of progressive, out-of-state donors and how little traction she has inside of Kentucky.

Just $140,000 of McGrath’s $3.6 million in itemized contributions came from the failed congressional candidate’s home state, while nearly $2 million came from the liberal strongholds of California, New York, and Massachusetts. McGrath was defeated by Kentucky Republican incumbent Andy Barr in her 2018 House campaign and is now running to oust Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.). McGrath failed to mention the word “Kentucky” in her Senate campaign’s launch video and has since portrayed her campaign as a “grassroots movement” despite the dominance of out-of-state cash.

McGrath raised nearly $1 million from the state of California alone, including about $100,000 in contributions from prominent Hollywood liberals. Jeffrey Katzenberg, a prominent movie producer and Barack Obama’s top bundler during the 2012 presidential campaign, and his wife both made $2,800 donations to McGrath’s campaign. Katzenberg, who co-hosted a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden last week, has been a staunch critic of President Donald Trump.

McGrath also received $5,600 donations—the maximum allowed under federal law—from Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn and his wife; $5,600 from Roth Films founder Joe Roth; $500 from actress Connie Britton; $500 from liberal comedian Rosie O’Donnell; $2,800 from actress Debra Messing, who called for the names of Trump donors to be publicized and compared Trump to Adolf Hitler; $2,800 from Veep executive producer David Mandel; $2,800 donations from billionaire film producer Sidney Kimmel and his wife; and $2,800 from television producer Shonda Rhimes, a major Democratic donor supporting Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris’s (Calif.) campaign.

One of the more interesting donors to McGrath, is NBA coach and stooge for Communist China, Steve Kerr.

McGrath’s ties to Kentucky seem more and more like callous opportunism. She has limited support in the state and thinks she can wow! the rubes with her combat veteran schtick. It didn’t work against a fairly easy-going guy in 2018, it certainly isn’t going to work against a knife-fighter like McConnell.
