This is the kind of snarky dismissal of legitimate concerns that will cost the school.

Liberty University, my alma mater, has responded to the concerns of those alumni alarmed by school President Jerry Falwell Jr’s continued support of Donald Trump, especially after Charlottesville.

“Liberty University strongly supports our students’ rights to express their own political opinions, including any opposition they have to their school leader’s relationship with this president of the US, just as other students may have opposed leadership of liberal institutions supporting previous presidents,” Liberty said in a statement.

“The tactic of returning diplomas has been used by students of many other schools to draw attention to various causes, but let’s also remember that those same diplomas are quite helpful in helping these graduates secure well-paying jobs,” the university added.

About that support… The school shut down an opposition statement from students who banded together, in light of Trump’s lewd admissions of his treatment of women on an Access Hollywood recording in October 2016.

The First to Stop Applauding

Concerned alumni have even started a Facebook page, Return Your Diploma to LU, to promote the opposition movement. At the time of this writing, the group has 588 members.

At issue is Falwell’s complete and total abandonment of godly principle, in favor of bowing to Lord Trump.

For his part, Falwell insists that he (and Trump) are misunderstood.

“He has inside information that I don’t have,” Falwell said of Trump. “I don’t know if there were historical purists there who were trying to preserve some statues.”

In the new round, some are saying they believe Falwell is “unfit” to continue leading the evangelical Christian school.

It would be nice to have an actual Christian, who holds to Christian principles running the school. Falwell’s Twitter page is more about advancing Trump’s agenda than God’s kingdom, which shows how pathetically, disturbingly far away from Christ he really is. The man seems far more concerned with seeing himself on TV, the willing shill for the administration, than in actually encouraging his father, Jerry Falwell Sr’s vision of raising up “champions for Christ.”

Dude, there was nothing “inside” about Trump’s defense of the “fine people” marching on Charlottesville, disparaging Jews, throwing Nazi salutes, and in the end, killing a woman.

And “fine people” wouldn’t have stayed, once they saw those things going on. The first mention of “Jews,” the first Nazi salute, should have been the signal to leave. Quickly.
