Senator Ron Johnson Backpedals on His FBI "Secret Society" Tale

Of course.

So all that talk about a “secret society” within the FBI that Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson has been pimping for several days – the senator may have jumped the gun.

Or made it up. It’s getting hard to tell.

The “secret society” in question was one Johnson pushed while speaking with Fox News’ Bret Baier. He suggested that he had an informant that revealed to him the existence of a “secret society” within the FBI, going all the way up to high ranking officials, formed with the intent of bringing down Donald Trump’s presidency. He further claimed that texts between FBI agent Peter Strzok and his mistress, Lisa Page, backed up the claim.

When Baier pressed the senator on those claims, he couldn’t really give a clear answer. Now we know why.

Johnson on Wednesday acknowledged not knowing what the informant meant regarding the alleged off-site gatherings, according to CNN, saying his remarks were based on both the informant and text messages exchanged between two FBI officials accused of being biased against the Trump administration.

Johnson added that the focus of the House Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the panel which the Wisconsin Republican heads, would now be on “the Clinton email scandal,” per CNN.

I think changing the subject is probably a good idea.

Meanwhile, he took several days of floating this alt-right-styled conspiracy theory, even getting Rep. Trey Gowdy in on it. The MAGAsphere has grabbed it with both hands, and it’s only a matter of time before somebody suggests this “secret society” is going on while they molest kids in the back of a Washington pizza parlor, along with some spirit cooking.

If there’s anything to look sideways at the FBI about, right now, it’s the missing text messages between Strzok and Page. That’s at least curious, but the FBI are saying a malfunction in their data storage program is to blame.

I hope we all get the answers necessary, although I doubt you’ll ever be able to placate the redcappers, as long as their idol is under investigation.

For Senator Johnson to do what he did, however, is simply irresponsible.
