Everyone has that one member of their family that you just stare at on occasion and say…ummmmmmmm. GOP Chair Ronna McDaniel, who is the niece of Sen. Mitt Romney, might have felt a li’l like that Wednesday when it was announced that the Junior Senator from Utah was gonna split the uprights of impeachment articles, voting for one and not the other.

After the deed was done, she made a statement via Twitter. According to the Washington Examiner

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said she and the Republican Party stand with President Trump after her uncle, Sen. Mitt Romney, announced he would vote to convict the president during his impeachment trial.

The Utah senator was the first Republican to announce he would vote to convict Trump. Romney said he would vote to convict Trump on the abuse of power charge but would vote to acquit him on obstruction of Congress.

“This is not the first time I’ve disagreed with Mitt, and I imagine it will not be the last. The bottom line is President Trump did nothing wrong, and the Republican Party is more united than ever behind him. I, along with the @GOP, stand with President Trump.”

Now, I do not envy Ronna, holding the position she does and having a family member that just did this. She is a pro, though, and she knew going in that something like this could happen. I’m also not surprised or mad at Mitt for doing what he did. The Senator from Utah has done these types of things his whole political career. He is constantly looking for adoration, which is what most politicians do, but he has a knack for lighting himself on fire politically to do it.

Unfortunately for Ronna, she is going to have to sit and watch as a family member gets scorched, being a lot of people will just act on pure emotion on Mitt’s illogical vote to acquit and convict on the two articles of impeachment. This is going to be nasty, and that energy honestly should be used to help the GOP keep the Senate and get the President re-elected. Trying to do anything to Mitt, who is 72 years old and a one-termer at best, is a waste of time.

Keep the GOP in control of the Senate and torture him that way, being as long as Trump is President and McConnell is Majority Leader Mitt will not have much to do.

This might not be the most popular opinion but this election in November will not be a cakewalk in any way, shape, or form. Focus on that or you risk making a minor player become a major factor in the GOP losing what they have done over the past three years.
