Obama and Calderon Trash Arizona

The apology tour comes home.

At the White House today, during the welcome ceremony for Mexican President Filipe Calderon – a welcoming to an official state visit wherein Calderon is to be celebrated – President Obama stood by as Calderon trashed the state of Arizona and its citizens over Arizona’s immigration control law:

At the start of Wednesday’s White House visit, Calderon said the law discriminated against Mexicans and called for the two countries to work together to develop an immigration policy that did not force people to live in the shadows “with such laws as the Arizona law, which is forcing our people to face discrimination.” [emphasis added]

Obama did not defend Arizona, as one might expect a President of the United States to do, especially at the White House. No, that’s not what change looks like. Obama instead joined in with a foreign head of state in bashing US citizens on US soil.

Obama claimed to understand the frustrations of the people of Arizona in passing the law, which exactly mirrors the requirements in a seventy year old federal statute. But he again characterized the law as “misdirected,” and outright lied about the law’s intention.

“We’re examining any implications especially for civil rights because in the United States of America, no law abiding person — be they an American citizen, illegal immigrant, or a visitor or tourist from Mexico — should ever be subject to suspicion simply because of what they look like.”

It is well known by now that the Arizona law authorizes no such thing. In fact, racial profiling is specifically outlawed in the law as a means of enforcement. But Obama nevertheless took the opportunity to make cause with a foreign government at the expense of America.

And with that, the apology tour comes home. No need for Obama to grovel in far flung world capitals any longer. Now, foreign heads of state can come to the White House and trash America and her citizens with impunity.

Pretty soon President Obama is going to have to make a decision. Either he is President of these United States, warts – as he sees them – and all, or he is some kind of post-national leader: a kind of president-in-exile within his own country.

A man cannot serve two masters. He will love the one and despise the other. The question for Obama is whose servant is he?

Surely they have had ample time, much more than Nancy usually gives us before demanding a vote on something much larger.

…hasn’t sent federal troops to the border to open it, keep it open and escort Mexicans into the United States and directly to a voter registrar. As perverse as that sounds it would not surprise me in the least if he did just that.

What we look like doesn’t matter anymore? So should police simply dispense with sketch artists? After all, the sketch might be incorrect, or the sketch could create a general image that many people might match in many respects, thus forcing many innocent people to fall under suspicion “simply because of what they look like.”

Also, if what we look like doesn’t matter, why am I forced to spend hours at a time waiting to obtain proper photo identification for the purposes of 1) driving, 2) purchasing alcohol, 3) purchasing a firearm or 4) traveling outside the United States?

Oh, that’s right. I’m a white American citizen, and therefore, it’s OK to subject me to any range of intrusions into my privacy and liberty. But don’t let us dare EVER look cross-ways at a Mexican. That there is downright unconstitutional, immoral and evil. Sorry. I’ll get back in line again and pretend I live in a country in which laws are enforced sensibly and equally.

Because this pathetic excuse for a president can only adequately be described using the most vile of scatological terminology.

I thought that our presidents were supposed to be Americans first, and therefore would not join with and facilitate foreigners in bashing a sovereign state of this union.

Good going, Mr. President. You have proven wrong all the poeople who said you could not sink any lower.

I saw this on a truck in San Antonio:

Seems kind of fitting. Perhaps Red State should sell these :)

even better, the truck also had a 2008 Obama bumper sticker….guess he’s losing his appeal even among supporters

This feels as if it is a staged insult. He wants Az GOP to do something that makes them an A$$ and can be used in Dem campaign adds.

    • Achance

is about getting perfectly sane people to over-react and do something stupid. So, of course, Comrade Obama would want to be provacative towards the AZ GOP in hopes they’d do something dumb.

      • lineholder

It gives them to chance to “assert” their authority to “regulate” the situation ” for the good of the people”.

Does this disgusting display by Obama surprise anyone? It’s also clear that Obama does not believe he needs the votes of the citizens of Arizona in 2012.

if he would be onboard if we adopted the same immigration laws that his beloved Mexico lives under.

I know, I’m living in a fantasy world.

    • edniceville

Tht is EXCTLY what our immigration laws/policy should look like! How hypocritical is it for a Head of State to stand on our front lawn and condemn our policiy that is weaker and more “benevolent” than his own? State Dinner? Should have been a trip through the Taco Bell Drive-Thru!

      • scubadiver49er

Mark Levin was on a roll last night, reading off the different articles under the present Mexican Immigration law. Unbelievable. I wonder if Calderone knows what’s in his immigration law? I’m sure the local Mexican police do. Throw ‘em in jail & throw away the key!!!! Truly amazing. Who would have ever thought the USA would come to all of this. Fundamental change – we got it!!! Can’t wait for the 2010 & 2012 elections soon enough! I hope we can still save the USA from its total demise, from once being the greatest nation to ever exist on this planet.

    • bs61

Is it any wonder that people want to leave when their dead citizens heads on stakes throughout the country! Plus, I just heard that they have a paper on how to jump the border. All of those $ going back to Mexico, is in Calderon’s favor – so he doesn’t want to see the border enforced.

  • gfwarhol

If Arizona has the guts, and I suspect they might, If Obama ever wants to come to Arizona in the future, it would be neat if Arizona says “no thanks, don’t bother.”

    • myron_j_poltroonian

Actually, Arizona’s either just passe, or is about to, a state election law. Which, according to that very restrictionist US Constitution that “He” loves to hate, every state has the God given right to set their own election rules and laws. the law in question? Just that anyone running for President of the United States of America, must provide valid proof that they qualify constitutionally. No poseurs with faux birth certificates need apply. Upon reflection, I haven’t heard the screeching, wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Blame Stream Media about this, so I guess it hasn’t passed yet.

      • myron_j_poltroonian

Sorry, “just passe” should, of course, be “just passed”.

cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization
Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is
suspected of being present in the United States in violation of
    federal immigration laws.
    (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected

“he or she must either obtain legal status or
leave the United States” Am I reading this to mean, that while here they can apply for a visa, wait here until they recieve it, and if it’s not approved, then they are told, “Shoo, go away, go on get out of here. You can’t stay Shoo” It would be better if instead they were put in handcuffs, put on a Wackenhut buss, and delivered right back to the border, instead of telling “You must leave”…I live in Tucson, and see empty Wackenhut buses driving south towards the border, and then a while later, driving north towards Tucson with a load if illegals…. It just doesn’t make sense to bring them any further north than their capture point…..Jerry (in Tucson) PS, been on this site and my first post

    Oxymoron, anyone?
Not a logical thought in his pretty little head.

  • http://www.scragged.com petrarch

You even need to ask anymore?

And how about the “smartest president ever” who does not even know how to use a dictionary? Show me a “law-abiding illegal immigrant” and I’ll show you a walking oxymoron, an definitional impossibility. A bit like an honest Democratic officeholder.

  • redneck_hippie

but doesn’t say he will deport the illegals. So, those illegals who may be enterprising and/or criminal enough to find paid employment in our country will be forced either to remain and enter the welfare rolls, continue to illegally be employed, or leave the country by choice or coercion. On the other hand, all of the illegals who are enjoying the comforts of our welfare state will be granted citizenship so we may harvest their votes. Have I got that about right?

    • mbecker908

along with a companion law making it illegal to rent housing to an illegal (I’ve gone over the details before) make “deportation” pretty much unnecessary. No job, no roof over their head, their gone.

      • Scope

A few years ago, Mayor Lou Barletta signed legislation penalizing by fines, employers and/or landlords for hiring or renting to illegals. The ACLU fought on behalf of the illegals, and a federal judge ruled in favor of the illegals. The law was thrown out, I believe because of the Supremacy Clause. Interesting article from American Thinker on the Federal Immigration Law being “obsolute.”

        http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/05/federal_immigration_law_is_obs.html

Watch for Congress simply to rule that the Federal Law supercedes state Immigration laws. Then they can simply go on ignoring the problem with the illegals as they have been doing.

        • mbecker908

and it’s been upheld in court. The only issue with that law is minimal fines and no felony leads to minimal enforcement.

          • myron_j_poltroonian

Technically, an employer cannot verify the status, legal or not, of a prospective employee, just one they’ve already hired. That, of course, puts them in the position of breaking the law by having hired an illegal alien. One they can be prosecuted and fined for – even if they’re not allowed by federal law to check an applicant’s status beforehand. “Catch 22″ anyone? You see, the politicians and their MSM enablers will never tell you of that vital (and I believe intentional) flaw. They’ll just bloviate about “Evil Corporations”, etc. (“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain”, et cetera.)

          • SteveLA

I thought any employeer could ask for a filled out I9 as a condition of employment, why can’t eVerify fall into the same requirement?

          • Scope

Any employer can’t just ask for a filled out I9 form, as a condition of employment, it is the law that every employer is required to have a completed I9 form in the employees file. The problem is that the federal government hasn’t enforced the law. I did payroll for more than 30 years, in a few different states, and, no one ever checked that those I9 forms were ever gotten. Honest employers made sure they had the signed forms, with the appropriate documents from columns A, B, or C. There are also employers that ignore the requirements of the FLSA law also. The only time anyone gets in any trouble is when an employee reports an infraction, which is only now coming to light. The Novaris lawsuit is the most current.

In English we state questions with phrases like, “I though”, which indicates to the reader that author might not be correct, but here’s what the author thinks, might even be a “why” can’t something work added in to move a question which is also done in a discussion.

  • Next93

Today I’ve come one step closer to formulating an answer. It has to do with him deciding he’s not my president.

If the legislature of AZ passed a mandatory cannibalism statute, and Jesus personally came to the white house to denounce it, it would STILL be the presidents duty to stand up for the laws and citizens of this country.

BTW, how can you be a Llaw-abiding person’ when your very presence in the US is a violation of federal law?

  • proudconservativerepublican

    a certain birth certificate. LOL.

Seriously, Obama is not culturally an American so he really has no foundation from which to defend America. By example, I don’t care a lot about Canada and were I the Canadian Prime Minister, I would probably spend a good deal of my time apologizing for that fact Canadians can pronounce “about” without it sounding like footware.

A real president would say, “I am Arizona.” If Arizona has problems with illegal immigration, a real president would say: “It’s my fault.”

A real president would not demonize Arizona for his own failures.

A real president wouldn’t have his Attorney General and Homeland Security Chief both demonize Arizona without even reading the law.

Las Vegas was BHO’s Chicago gang’s first political drive by after coming to office. Reveling in their new found power to crush, they decided to “transform” NASAs goals – essentially to gut the manned space program, sorry, no Mars, no return to Moon. Well leave that to the Chinese, Iranians, French. But if we really want to go up there with astronauts, maybe we can pay the Russians and hitch a ride with them in their shiny Vostok. Do you really think this was considered, planned and budgeted policy? No, it was a Rahn Emanuel, payback style hit on JSC Manned Space Center in…Texas, which, BTW voted Red in 08. There you have it, the national space program, a pride of America, stimulator of the economy, handmaiden of our national defense, junked by a Chicago style political hit.
The MSM are no longer much but a bunch of lapdogs to BHO but I bet among a few of them ,just a ver;y few of the older ones, there may actually be a little bit of consternation in this quiet hit , at least those who have memories of JFK and Johnson and Apollo 11. It/s not America’s space program any more, it’s just Sri Lankas or Zimbabwe’s, partnering on the occasional weather satellite. Then again, who cares about Mercury, Gemini and Apollo, it was just a bunch of military types with short hair cuts.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the bread line,
I shall fear no hunger, for his bailouts are with me.
He has anointed my income with taxes,
    My expenses runneth over.
Surely, poverty and hard living will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will live in a mortgaged home forever.
I am glad I am American, I am glad that I am free.
    But I wish I were an old dog . . .
    And Obama was a tree.

I guess I’m having a little trouble being respectful to Obama since he shows no respect for our country.

  • http://www.twitter.com/mikweir mikweir

    1. The Arizona law is a US Internal Affair. Obama should tell Calderon to go pound sand rather than join him in trying to use this for political gain.

    2. It is a long held policy of Mexico to allow for large amounts of migrants to the US in an attempt to minimize domestic discontent which can be sizable (see Chiapas uprising of the 1990s). Mexico want to dictate our policy on illegal immigration and not us. We need to tell them to but out.

    3. Even if profiling was occurring, the seriousness of the issue of criminals, human traffickers and the like coming here to the US and causing domestic discontent trumps and alleged harm. Honestly, if you are a legal citizen and are “profiled” what is the harm compared to getting shot at by coyotes coming over the border, drug dealers, or hardended criminals the Mexican government can dump over the side.

    4. The terrorists know this border is open and we need to seal it before it becomes an issue. Allow legal traffic and migration yes not illegal.

  • paulrph1

Obama has never once shown and allegiance to America. Not even the day he took an oath to protect the Constitution of America. He does not even believe in the Constitution. He flubbed his oath but took it later in private to make it relative but when he did this he never swore on the bible. His whole campaign was a farce. He campaigned as a middle of the road patriot but there is no patriotism here. As soon as he was elected (by lying to the people of America) he quickly forgot what he campaigned on.
As far as the hypocrite Calderon goes, he wants to keep the illegal aliens here because he like the one billion dollars they send home each year because without it their country would collapse. I do not figure this one out because they will ruin our country in order to save theirs but if they ruin our country theirs will cease to exist.
If you know of someone who is protesting the Arizona bill you should ask them a couple of questions? We have close to 10% unemployment here but they are only worried about keeping the illegal aliens employed and not their neighbor, friend, or relative. Where is there allegiance? They are saying this is racial profiling where the bill itself allows for none of such. This as well of most of the prejudice implications these days are taken out of context and are a method of making every thing politically correct. This political correct thing is just a way of manipulating people. Obama love your country or leave it. I will even help you pack.

  • usa2day

Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic . Someone over there has it figured out. We have a lot of work to do.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.”

“The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

Does he have to find every opportunity just to try to prove that we were wrong in doing so and that our initial impressions of him were absolutely correct? Since when are illegal aliens law abiding? If you break a law that HE doesn’t like and not any others does that make you law abiding? He has absolutely no right as the President of the United States to even make that statement. And when he talks about “subject to suspician” isn’t he talking about the same police that he used as his tools along with firemen when he wanted the Stimulus bill passed? We couldn’t have them lose their jobs…oh no! Now they are lining up as racist wannabes in Arizona. Much like their comrades in Cambridge Massachusetts. The president is the Chief Executive of the United States, putting him at the head of the executive branch of the government, whose responsibility is to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” To carry out this duty, the president is given control of the four million employees of the federal executive branch.
This is pursuant to Article II, Section 2, Clause If the United States Constitution which states that the President: ?shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.? His important job, what he took a Solemn Oath to uphold over all is the defense and protection of the United States from all enemies both foreign and domestic. And here we have him condemning a state which is following the current Federal Law, which he seems incapable of doing.

Every day I update The Obama Timeline (www.colony14.net), in an effort to chronicle the antics of the thug-in-chief. Every day I hope for some peace and quiet, that there will be nothing absurd or outrageous to document and I can take some time off. And, of course, I am always wrong. Not a day goes by without the current temporary occupant of our Oval Office doing something revolting that likely causes James Madison and Thomas Jefferson to turn over in their graves. (They both probably wish they had made George Washington king rather than president… at least that could have kept Obama out of the White House.)

At any rate, because no one else is doing it, I religiously maintain The Obama Timeline. No one may care today, but in years to come perhaps some future historian will run across it and use it to understand how we got into this predicament and destroyed a once-great nation.

    1) Have you read the law? I have. If not (whether Dem or GOP) you should not talk about it.

    2) The biggest problem, as an attorney, is that the law guts the 4th Amendment. Probable cause goes out the window, reasonable suspicion instead. I’ve seen the police do enough pretext stops; this legalizes that. And, if you care about the Bill of Rights, that should really bother you.

Though I also get concerned because suddenly now we are saying to Hispanic Americans born in the U.S. that they have to carry an ID with them proving their citizenship if they want to avoid being mistaken for an immigrant (legal or illegal). This should never be required of a native born American, and I know that white Americans would never tolerate it if the law resulted in them being mistaken for immigrants.

I’m not going to touch the immigration issue. Not my field, I do not know enough to comment.

But I can talk about the powers this gives the police. That is my area.

I’ve done criminal defense work and been amazed at the “reason” police stop some people. Now, in AZ, they have a free pass just on “reasonable” suspicion, contrary to 4th Amendment. Plus they can detain for, as I recall 4 hours if someone has no ID on them. Lots of what could be Constitutional violations can occur in 4 hours.

And I am not talking about illegals here. Any citizen can be stopped. This is a huge violation of the rights of U.S. citizens.

Imagine if the police were empowered to confiscate your gun unless you could prove it was legal. Just as wrong.

When this speech becomes illegal, I’ll become a criminal: “I may become an enemy of the state, but never of the people”.

While I disagree with most everything on this site, I will fight for your right to say it. Thus, I will defend your right to slam the President all you want. It’s your right, even if I think you are wrong. By the same reasoning, if I said “Rep. Steve King is a &#&#&#” I would expect to be defended by anyone here. We may disagree, but we have that right.

Only certain speech (threats, etc.) should be and is illegal.

to call the democrat party what it really is – the Marxist Party. As for this nonesense that enforcement of the law is bad for America or the emotional racial profiling nonesense of the PC crowd, I suppose you really do prefer chaos, citizens killed and property overrun to requiring a safe, logical approach to immigration. Opponents to the Ariz Law have a position that is not defendable.
It was interesting that Megyn Kelly last night on O’reilly indicated that she was surprised (she read the Ariz law and researched law in this area) to find that the Renquist SC held that police do not need a reason to ask someone for papers to show they are here legally. The Ariz Law is really not so strict as the federal law.
The bashing of America by Pres’s Obama and Calderon is a new low in presidential politics. Too bad the States can’t demand the impeachment of the president.
