Red Tide Rising!

DOOM Watch In MASS

Toss up in Massachusetts” ,That is the headline over at PPP. The truth is, it should read Brown LEADS!!

Buoyed by a huge advantage with independents and relative disinterest from Democratic voters in the state, Republican Scott Brown leads Martha Coakley 48-47.

And that’s not even the best quote.

We lead enthusiasm 66% to 48%, we lead the indie vote 63%-31%* with Scott Brown claiming a 70/16 favorability rating, and with those “who have a negative take on both parties[read that Tea Party participants], who account for more than 20% of the electorate, Brown leads 74-21″, I could go on but why?

Of course, there are ways that Coakley could correct course and still win this, as PPP notes, but time is running out for her. Also keep in mind that PPP is left leaning, so Scot Brown‘s lead could be more than indicated here.

Help Scott Brown today, we have the momentum!

Spread the DOOM 2010.

Aaron B. Gardner

* Health Care reform is a big loser for the Dems with Indies. 59% are against it with only 27% being in favor of Obama’s plan.

Already donated, but there is time for the rest of you. Understand, that this is the end of ObamaCare if he wins. They are even talking about delaying his installment just to pass the bill.

If that happens, this will truly be then end of the Dems for a while. The American people will see this as Democrats stealing the health care of this nation and doing it with the sleaze that they are!

    Your help is needed.

  • ilgop24

Initially going into this race, I was hoping to see Brown pull in 44% of the vote with great numbers among independents.

Part of me believes that the race really won’t be this close, but is a game the dems are playing in order to get more dems out to vote in Massachusetts. Sort of creating a panic factor, such as “Save Ted’s Seat”

Obviously I hope I am wrong but I have no confidence in the state of Massachusetts.

  • sacody

oh, wait. PPP has been predicting doom for Democrats since August; they are hoping somebody in their party will actually listen to them.

  • http://www.mysimplehomegarden.com tbaleno

The save Ted’s seat won’t work. She HATED Ted. She only voted D because she hated republicans. That changed with obama. She voted for McCaine because of how obama treated Hillary. I think that now that she has voted R once and the direction Obama and the current Dems have taken the country she is likely to vote for Brown. I still haven’t asked her who she is voting for yet.

But if others in this state are like my mother the save Ted’s seat deal won’t work.

  • smagar
  • jeffreywturner

If Brown wins, they will do whatever it takes to at least clear the cloture vote before he is seated.

That said, I am not saying it wouldn’t be devastating to the Dems to lose this, but they have way to much invested in Obamacare to lose it now, and they are determined to “throw good money after bad” now.

  • joayn

The article in the Boston Herald really steamed me yesterday. So, this morning I sent a fax to Kirk’s Boston office, thanking him for giving us a head’s up on their plans. Also included that I donated $100 after reading the article (which I did), and asked him to say “hi” to Martha for me. I did end my note with my favorite two-word expression reserved for occasions such as this, IN REALLY BIG LETTERS.

Who do these people think they are? They are not going to steal this election. C’mon, guys, donate.

It may have already. I’m not sure how many dems will vote for it seeing this. They already know it is unpopular. Now they know to what extent.

Either the House has to vote on the senate bill as is or it does go back to the senate. Either way I would be supprised if there were enough democrat votes to pass it. It barely squeaked by the first time.

How many democrats do you think are going to fall on their sword for this? There are some, but maybe not enough.

  • Third Street

…because as you say, they will indeed delay Brown’s certification as long as they have to in order to be sure Paul Kirk sticks around to cast another vote for ObamaCare, if it goes back to the Senate.

It may not go back to the Senate, but it DOES have to pass the House again. And the way this election can kill ObamaCare is by scaring so many House Democrats across the country — a Republican win in Massachusetts! — that it spooks them into voting against it in a desperate attempt to save their own skins. And I’m not just talking about Blue Dogs, either. Even if Brown loses, a close race can accomplish this.

Win or lose, Scott Brown is performing a service to his country every bit the equal of that he did in uniform.

There’s no question, anything with Brown in single digits, let alone winning, is great, especially with momentum on his side. But, and I hate to be a buzz-kill, I find it really hard to believe, looking at the cross-tabs, that Obama’s approval rating in MA is only 44%.. I’m sure it will be one day, but not yet. So let’s take this one with a grain of salt for now, and keep working to close the gap!

I still see here mug in Video/Pics with Democrats all the time, never with her “fellow Republicans” these days! We have to stay all over her that she CANNOT pull the Cloture Yes with Final Vote No …. BS…. A vote for Cloture, now as always, is a Vote FOR (to allow) it. There is nothing that keeps her from back-tracking yet again.

+Snowe vote – Snowe’s (Gang of Sicks) vote wasn’t needed to move HC fiasco from Sentate Finance Committee (simple 50% majority would have done)
+3 R’s give 3 weak D’s duplicity coverage voting FOR Omnibus spending and some Republicans keep providing Democrats CINO (pavlovian-blue-dog) cover
+(GangOfSicks) (er… Six) – The Senate HC “Gang Of Sicks” (formerly 7, but Hatch left and that didn’t have the fun play on words ;-) lol) Can any of them be trusted to not back-track?!?!?

  • http://www.mysimplehomegarden.com tbaleno

There could be two reasons for this. A lot of people are young adults who have woken up and seen obama for what he is. Or it could be that the poll was of likely voters and the Democrate obama lovers aren’t planning on voting.

  • jeffreywturner

    IMHO

  • joayn

Scott Brown won by enough of a margin for no doubt, and showed up at the senate chambers on January 20th?

If he wins, which is looking better and better thanks to the Dems overdosing on stupid, the Repubs MUST take advantage of the many, many photo ops that will “shock the nation.” Can’t you just see the headline? “HARRY REID DENIES DEMOCRACY.” “MASSACHUSETTS DENIED VOTE.”

I just wish the GOP would get with the Alinsky drama tactics.

  • peg_c

And will again before the election. This is truly awesome. The FB Brown crowd is totally fired up as well and we post all these links to keep everyone pumped.

  • Swamp_Yankee

I know its tough to say decent things about moderate Dems around here. But many of them are lalready stretched thin. Claire McCaskill had some tough words today.

All it takes is one, not on the merits of the bill, which they dont like, but on good government grounds. That;s a whole new ball game. I think if we raise enough hell and the Dem leadership’s shadiness is transparent, a guy like Lieberman might come back to us.

While they don’t have time to Register more ficticious folks, they have plenty of time to go through Voting records to see who hasn’t been voting lately and those folks will land up with Absentee Ballots filed too!

They simply are NOT going to sit idly by and leave behind Senator Deady Kennedy’s seat to die a Cold Watery death….. Yes, despite my cautioning (other times) about our NOT being as bad as Democrats (personal Sense of Humor – we do have to have a Sense-of-humor about ourselves, Skidmark bomber – TidyWhitey (or TightyWhitey) Terrorist (aka: Skidmarks bomber), and TSA pants inspector – joining TSA to be a ‘Pants’ inspector (warning: bad humor)) I WENT THERE!

The “pro-life Democrats” will do what they are told, when they are told and exactly how they are told.

Never count on a Democrat being pro-life, because they aren’t. They have one, and only one, objective and that is to nationalize everything.

  • CowboyUp4419

Rumors are circulating that tomorrow morning the Boston Herald will publish their poll on this race that shows this as a one point race among likely voters, albeit with Coakley in the lead.

I dislike advising people to head on over the kos but they’re in full meltdown mode over this poll; infighting abounds. It’s great for a laugh.

  • Third Street

…but in the end, they couldn’t stop it.

And if there is a vote-fraud capital of America, NJ would definitely be a contender. Still, Corzine was swept beneath the red tide. He lost by four points, which for an incumbent Dem in that state might as well have been twenty. The same thing may be about to happen in Massachusetts.

I wish I still had my DeLorean, so I could do what I had intended to do several years ago (but was yet another thing I allowed the ex-wife to talk me out of – what happens when you let a Liberal into your life) and put it decked out in BTTF workings with “Back To The Republic” signs on it and blasting “Back In Time” from the Movie along with “Ike” (our local “DRGO” Parade GOP Elephant float) in July 4th Parades, Constitution Day events, and the like. As it would have been that Something Different, and a bit off the wall, to garner the attention and curiousity of some that might otherwise not pay any attention to something/anything a “Republican” group would say or put forth.

Obviously there is very little I can do to prove this over the internet, I started following redstate after seeing Erick on Hannity’s GAP, registered probably two months ago, but haven’t felt compelled to post anything.

I would love nothing more than for the people of Massachusetts to elect Scott Brown. Like I said, I am encouraged by these numbers, but with this being Massachusetts, I don’t want to get my hopes up until I see a little check next to Brown’s name on January 19th.

I hope people continue to put in the effort to beat Coakley, I am putting in a lot of time in a local race where I am at to try and beat a current Democrat incumbent and we are getting a great response.

Even if he doesn’t win, I still want Brown to have an extremely strong showing, and for the Independents to break overwhelmingly to the right.

My folks for instance. When I told them about this…they decided to participate in the money bomb, they were THAT angry. And they don’t donate to political campaigns.

  • gemimail

PPP does likely voter polling which is why it is a statistical tie. If the poll had been taken of all adults, Coakley would be way ahead and Obama approval would be way up. However, only voters who show up at the polls (or cast an absentee vote) will decide the election. That makes likely voter polling the only reliable model in a special election like this.

  • blaze422

There definitely seems to be a significant number that actually are rooting for Coakley to lose. They think that with only 59 votes that the next move will be for reconcilliation. The polls in MA show a large enthusiasm gap, mostly because so many constituencies are pissed about what’s going on… and some of it is because I personally think many progressives are preparing for Hari-Kari.

  • AceInTX

and the very thing that could kill it is a special election for his seat and his own constituents may be the folks that slays the obamacare dragon?

  • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

as, IMO, if it weren’t for Romney working with the Lib’s of MA and shackling them with the LESSON TO BE LEARNED the people of MA would NEVER have even begun to consider how bad Obamaocare (Obamaocare primers: here, here, here, here, here, and HC issues summary here) will be for America and remotely consider NOT showing up for yet another Lefty-loon Democrat on the ballot (regardless of the Election and consequences).

*Romney lovers/haters – no need to open up the arguments of degree of involvement and blame, just leave it at the point I’m making about it giving them INSIGHT as to how bad Obamaocare will be and may be contributing to waking up some folks in MA.

Yet he’s against Obamacare. Good for MA but not for the nation? This is what makes conservatives stay home and lets liberals savage us for hypocrisy.

Researchers point to Massachusetts, which passed a universal health care law in 2006, as a real-world example of what can happen when a swath of the population suddenly gains access to insurance and health care. A study by the Massachusetts Medical Society found that 24 percent of residents reported having difficulty getting the care they needed in 2008, up from 16 percent the previous year. Among the main reasons for the logjam: long waits for an appointment. The same study found that the percentage of family doctors who were no longer accepting new patients grew to 35 percent in 2008 from 25 percent in 2006.

    http://prescriptions.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/05/who-will-care-for-the-newly-insured/

Paying the Health Tax in Massachusetts

My husband retired from IBM about a decade ago, and as we aren’t old enough for Medicare we still buy our health insurance through the company. But IBM, with its typical courtesy, informed us recently that we will be fined by the state.

Why? Because Massachusetts requires every resident to have health insurance, and this year, without informing us directly, the state had changed the rules in a way that made our bare-bones policy no longer acceptable. Unless we ponied up for a pricier policy we neither need nor want-or enrolled in a government-sponsored insurance plan-we would have to pay $1,000 each year to the state.

My husband’s response was muted; I was shaking mad. We hadn’t imposed our health-care costs on anyone else, yet we were being fined (“taxed” was the word the letter used).

We have all seen the same old lame, elected and unelected, big government, go along to get along, RINO and neo-con, Republicans. From Newt to Mitt, to Fred, to McCain – we should not remain blind to how poorly many members of our own party have performed relative to the party platform as well as to their oath of office. If we allow these same old hacks that have betrayed us in the past to lead us forward, we are the poor fools we so detest. Will the GOP continue to support “government over people” or will it truly support “government of the people”, AND MEAN IT?

Unfortunantly, democratically organized institutions tend toward mob rule and can be taken over by the cunning few. Principles become easily compromised under a hail of conservative sounding collectivism. Our party has been eroded by just such influence mainly due to lack of participation by those citizens who call themselves proud Republicans.

If you are first an American, then a Republican, please attend your party’s local meetings and speak up for less government, NOW. Believe me, if the good people of this country do not take back the Republican Party and wrestle it from Democrat control, this country will be severly damaged. Democrats have become Republicans, ie, Arlen Spector. He just returned “home”. We know there are other liberals in our party, screwing things up and making us look bad. These collectivist liberals, however conservative sounding, need to be denied GOP status and audiences.

Remember…. “fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice, shame on me”. Please get involved today – or shut your trap.

I think you are correct to some degree amongst some within the Party… I believe, but will say direct again, in case, that you got I was saying that the only good Romneycare (to be fair, not entirely his – but his fault for compromising and even attempting it) is giving us is that the MA folks may finally realize, by having experienced it, a chance to win in MA now. Had they not experienced it, they would still all be very gung-ho for a HC-takeover and any Democrat they’d be putting forth. But again, I think you understood that, but (in case you didn’t, or) in case others hadn’t seen the other comment I made or got my gist I figured I’d come back and spell it out … especially since the fire it lit under the “one post wonder” just banned ;-) lol.

I also agree with you (from other Diary discussions we’ve had on this topic of Obamaocare in general) in that we CANNOT expect that it can pass and have some SCOTUS challenges over-turn the whole thing… It will land up like the whole CFR fiasco. (ex post facto Court challenges to Obamaocare short-sighted – Thinking Obamaocare can be defeated in the Courts is a BAD short-sighted STRATEGY! must not be allowed to be signed AT ALL!)

That means scared dems. Look what they are doing – they are calling in Bill Clinton. Not the wonderful, hopeandchange, makethesealevelsfall Barack Obama, but to their true savior.

If the poll news gets Rs motivated (which it should far more than it should dems) I’m all for it. I’m going to donate tomorrow for sure – I’m glad now that I waited a day or two so I can be part of the moneybomb.

Can Brown pull this off? I have no idea….but just the fact that we are threatening in a heavy blue state for a seat held by the ‘liberal lion’ for eons speaks VOLUMES.

And it’s fun to watch the left in panic mode.

  • khayos

There are big portions of the state with young low income workers that don’t qualify for the free care (MassHealth) who are really upset about the mandatory health insurance (though the rage has had a few years to subside).

Democrats are being saddled here with huge spending with little return… businesses fleeing the state, income tax rate hike in the last year. Any tie Scott Brown can make between Coakley and Deval Patrick will be VERY effective in the last few days.

Also, I don’t think Romney is held here as individually responsible for the mandatory health insurance as is played on the national stage. I think more understand that the overwhelmingly Democratic legislature was going to push it through and Romney just tried to trim the beast.

  • Trelaina

even by 0.0000001% the left will spin it as a huge loss for the GOP. I don’t think that should be a factor in our outlook or our efforts.

  • khayos

Because of Deval Patrick. Patrick ran on the same platform as Obama and has created huge problems for the state and the parallels are being drawn.

They “hoped” Obama wouldn’t play out like Patrick but that hasn’t been the cash and I’d say the huge advantage he had was more a total rejection of Bush (they HATE Bush here, even now as much as ever).

  • khayos

I made the comment in another post. Coakley is running a ton of independent focused ads during playoff football (many yesterday) and Brown just doesn’t have the money to compete.

  • khayos

And Deval Patrick has been a disaster.

  • swami7774

….is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. She looks like she’s making a hostage tape.

…in Globe poll(which I warned about Friday night).
That poll seems to be the outlier.
Then again, as honest newspapers go, the Globe itself is an outlier.

  • khayos

It’s very “serious” of her… as if she should be forced to make her case before the people…

  • joayn

So what? If anything, this will inspire complacency in Dem voters – thanks, Globe!

    Also, read the comments.

A close race is not good enough. One percentage point is impressive for a Republican in Massachusetts, but it is not likely enough to overcome the massive fraud that will take place in the Democrat strongholds of Massachusetts.

  • joayn

they think there’s something fishy about the poll. There’s a quote from one of the people polled that the Kennedy family’s support made a difference to them – BUT, the Kennedy family did not come out in support of Coakley until a day AFTER the poll ended.

    Good read.

I am optimist, and think we can win..but let us not get our hopes up. Right now is a time to fight, raise money, and do the best we can to election Scott Brown. If we fall short, so be it. But we will have some sort of victory even if this is made close. This is a statement election, and it is time to stand up.

    http://neoavatara.com/blog/?p=9426

  • AnnaD

Brown has to win by 5% or more. That was the margin between Gov. Mitt Romney and his liberal opponent, Shannon “Hillary” O’Brien. Scott has to win by at least 5% or their cheating will steal the election.

  • ktsub

What is great is long-term, even being this close, gives MA GOP at least something to build on. Its been a long time, since those guys on the real front lines have had much to give them an umph.

Even a loss (I think he is going to win), being this close, making the Dems fight for this, makes a great start going into 2010 for the MA governors race.

What would be great is if Brown runs a commercial, saying “I’m Scott Brown fighting for SIEU’s great health care benifits, I will oppose the “Cadillac Tax” on your union plans, the plans that YOU and your unions have fought for”.

  • ceili_dancer

I, personally ignore most of the commercials during a football game(need another adult beverage, bathroom, food, house on fire, whatever) I’m usually away from the TV. If somehow I have no other activities and have to sit through a set, I get very impatient. With most of the ads I get to the point of yelling at the TV to get the game on. The only time I actually pay attention is during the Super Bowl, we usually have a pool on the commercials, i.e. first soda commercial, job search, beer, …
On another point Nelson’s commercials during the Holiday Bowl. How well did that work at home.

  • shaitra

I donated to Brown’s campaign! I must admit in my excitement, I didn’t notice that they were going for big numbers tomorrow or I would have waited until then,

give him the wealth … better than giving it to van Jones and Obama so they can buy votes with your money.

were clearly aimed at demographics that usually need help from outfits like ACORN to turn out to vote; young, beer-swilling males and people who like hip-hop, usuall either young, Black, or both. ‘Course, NBC had both games yesterday and they have their own advertiser base. Today’s games are on CBS and FOX, so we’ll see who the people who spend big money on sports advertising think they’re reaching in these games.

It is always interesting to watch the changes in targeted demographis during the course of a NASCAR season. NASCAR is unique in that its season is carried successively by FOX, NBC, TBS, and ABC/ESPN. Even with sponsors that go through the whole season, bigs like Home Depot, Lowes, Bud, etc., the themes, music, announcers etc. change as they move from network to network based on who they think they’re reaching or trying to reach.

  • harlan

…that not only is Coakley ahead by a HUGE margin, but the election has already been held and she is the winner by a knockout.

So, all you tea-drinking morons should just stay home on the 19th.

Really. Would I lie to you?

Not everyone in Massachusetts is a loony lefty. We have elected republican governors for 16 years in a row. This time around the voters are not too happy either with Obama or Patrick. The scandals on Beacon Hill are rubbing on Martha also, and the dems know it.
It is funny two of state’s newspapers own by NYT have different take on the election In one hand the Boston Globe comes in with twisted poll result in favor of Martha in the other hand The Worcester Telegram today endorses Brown. In prior election both papers endorsed Jim McGovern for congress and Martha for AG.
The libs in Mass are in a panic mode and that’s good for Brown and the nation.
The odds in favor of Scott are much much better than the polls
indicate. Don’t be surprise on Jan 19th. when Martha concedes

  • mbecker908

Coakley won’t be conceding until at least the 15th of February.

there will be plenty of time to hold the others responsible for their betrayals later

  • AceInTX

but let’s get back to making sure Brown wins from here and keep the receiminations against other Republicans to a minimum…until after 1/19/2010…The it’s open season again…LOL

  • AceInTX

He’ll say on the one hand that he didn’t have any choice and was forced to pass it…but on the other hand he campaigns on how brilliant he was in making it free market and he’s proud of the individual mandate and brags on the plan in his campaigns.

Anyway…I didn’t want to get bogged down on my issues with Mitt because we’re talking about Brown V Coakly and we need to get Brown elected…but I don’t want to let the “Romney is a victim of Democrat a majority” meme to pass without comment because I have evidence that he not only was for it…but is proud of it!

    Now…back to Brown V Coakly

    please

  • earlgrey

On the various blogs, the range of sentiment among MA residents is very broad. I think that explains the vastly different polls.

  • swami7774

If Coakley wins by anything less than 13-15 percent, it will be a harbinger of a horrible November for Dems.

It’s NOT all about just the Candidates ads, these days…. I certainly am NOT relying upon any official GOP entity to do anything for anyone, and if/when/where they do I don’t expect it to have any value as we dealt with during the last Presidential campaign (the NeverFindOut.org Ads). So I’m still sticking with the direct Candidate support and to Conservative 527′s to run properly targeted and well crafted ads that support ALL CONSERVATIVES (and if nothing else, really anti-Democrat now/basically because of their all marching off the cliff on Obamaocare) to air.

as everyone knows at this point (are there any dumb independents that don’t, really?), that the Democrats are all CCINO (CINO, more CINO) and will pull the usual Pavlowian-Blue-Dog as soon as they are commanded (not asked).

    Hostage script:
Hello, my name ___InsertDemocratCandidateNameHere____, and I will be “accountable” and “transparent.” The Party is not making me say this…. really…. I will be in DC for “You!”

discovering all kinds of mysteriously, not to fore, discovered Democrat votes (Early- (and the new Late-) Voting trends and any/every other kind of fraud). There MUST be overwhelming turnout for Brown to avoid any of their possible antics. We can already see the Liberal MSM bias (attempts to shape Election turnout) in full throtle.
