Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D) Embraces the Race Card

That was like a double whammy race card.

“Vote for me because I am Hispanic and I support immigration. P.S. My opponent is from Vietnam and he’s coming to take our jobs.”

Her opponent? Van Tran. As luck would have it, Tran is trying to reach a fundraising goal of $8k by Sept 30th. [hint hint]

I must give Rep. Sanchez credit though, I don’t think anyone has actually placed the race card in the sharks mouth prior to jumping it. Well done.

UPDATE (Dan McLaughlin): According to TPM, Sanchez’s rep tries to make it all better by saying that she doesn’t hate all Vietnamese people, just the ones supporting Van Tran:

Sanchez’s campaign said that she “was referencing those in the Vietnamese community who are supporting her opponent.”

    I remember when Lorreta Sanchez was a new member to Congress. She was young, pretty & full of pep, and she was all over the talk shows.

    Now she seems tired and desperate – intoxicated with the power of incumbency and willing to stoop to any level to keep it.

    Since I was a child I was pushed by the community, the school, and sadly private industry pushed me to use the race instead of pushing me to develop skills as well as education. Luckily never my mother, grandfather, and a few friends told me to work hard. However when you do not use your race you end up like me and my other who have no jobs or/and work below medium wage. In my case take your tax paying money in the form of social security.

    So what Sanchez is doing what she beliefs as her survival. Although I am tired of it the race card, I had even beg the CA GOP to allow me to intern many moons ago. So conservatives can fix this by teaching, extending real opportunites, and encourage (like the Asians) me and my community to fish for ourselves. Personally I am out of ideas… Besides having degree I have even intern in the highest place in the land along side jobs illegals would turn down. Any ideas ( forgot to add I have had several surgeries that led to very low immunity..please be realistic)

    Santa Anna is in this district I think and is the Orange County illegal Alien capital.

    This race will come down around racial lines and it will be interesting to see if the parts of the district not over-run with illegal aliens will vote for Van Tran, I’m hoping so.

    She previously tried for office as a Republican under her married name, Loretta Brixey. Noting the increasing Hispanic population in the district, she switched parties and reverted to her maiden name, winning a close and disputed election against “Battleship Bob” Dornan which was finally decided by the House itself, but has won reelection fairly comfortably ever since.

    So race has kept her in office, but the district is still part of Orange County so she can’t be considered safe no matter how long she’s survived. In a Republican wave year, she may feel particularly vulnerable so she reverts to the racial polarization that won her the seat in the first place.

    Apparently so. When I first saw this article I figured Van Tran (GOP candidate for CA-47) would raise $8K in an hour. Instead, four days later and he’s still over $1,000 short of his goal. And what’s truly sad is this district is competitive, especially after Sanchez stuck her racist foot in her mouth.
