On NPR and Juan Williams.

Holding to it's principles, NPR fires Juan for speaking the truth.

In case you haven’t heard yet, Juan Williams was fired by the taxpayer subsidized NPR (National Public Radio). He was fired for saying that he too has anxiety when he sees people in Muslim garb on a plane with him. He was fired for telling the truth, as Erick Erickson noted in the linked post.

Juan’s anxiety is a completely normal human response to a traumatic event perpetrated by people citing their Muslim faith as reason and justification for the same. Juan was speaking from his own experience, with empathy for others who have also suffered losses due to Islamic Terrorism.

Despite these natural human inclinations, Juan went on to explain that we shouldn’t lump everyone together. To a degree I think Juan is correct. We shouldn’t let stereotypes cloud our judgments, nor should we allow a PC culture to do the same.

Even with these qualifications on his overall statements, NPR decided to fire him. He simply wasn’t toeing the line for the NPR mission. This is a good point that I will briefly address after the full O’Reilly segment.

“Political Correctness can lead to some kind of paralysis where you don’t address reality”

Juan nailed it right out of the gate. Although, I doubt he knew he was signing his own pink slip with this statement.

You see, NPR’s mission is in direct opposition to “address[ing] reality”. NPR’s mission is to distort reality and make lie truth. NPR is nothing but a taxpayer subsidized propaganda machine for the bureaucracy.

When we take back the House, NPR’s funding should be first in line for getting the proverbial axe.

only a snowflake or two, but–you gotta start somewhere! Get out the red pencils, let the defunding begin!

It just goes to show what happens when you tick off the wrong set of people- Juan is on record saying some not so affectionate things towards the Tea Party and conservatives in general and it never once called out on it. But, when he says something against a small portion of American society (Muslims) he gets the ax. Hmmm….where does NPR’s allegiance really fall? With average American citizens? It appears not.

If NPR gets away with this, you can officially declare the Constitution null and void.

Please flood NPR with emails demanding that Jaun gets his job back.

but I gave $20 to a local public station-say 25 years ago. Back then you saw Buckley and Louis Ruykeiser plus Market market. They filled a need or so it seemed.

Okay true confession time is over.

We need to ditch NPR–defund it to nothing.

The radio show “all things considered” has been hyper liberal for news. I still remember the walking tour they did in 2004 in Columbus Ohio. They randomly walked down a street and found 5 voters in a row who voted for Bush in 2000 but were now going for Kerry.

Sadly NPR gets lots of money from state and local government too. Well the local stations do and the state networks. That needs to go too.

Adam “Mythbusters” Savage made that quote in a lighthearted and self-deprecating context, but if you think about it, that pretty much sums up the attitude of the left in so many matters, as demonstrated last night by NPR.

as Rush snarked on Juan Williams, who today called the Tea Parties racist:

Mr. Williams, who is black, said,

During the year of 2008, as the election was looming each time I listened to NPR (WSHU in New York), all I heard was “the savior has come” articles and Bush Bashing.

I promptly sent them a letter demanding that they no longer contact me re: donations. I refuse to give them another dime (that I can control, since Gov’t donations are extorted from me).

I will be sending them an email regarding Juan today.

They deserve nothing less that to be shut down via starvation.

The Constitution was rendered null and void when the Supreme Court ruled foreign terrorists have a constitutional right to evertything you and I have a Constitutional right to. US citizenship is a moot point these days.

  • Common_Cents

that needs to stop especially funded by taxpayer money.

How much damage do they do? How much does it cost to deprogram brainwashed liberals.

….strayed too far from the brother-and-sisterhood of perpetual victimhood. Can’t be havin’ that from one of ‘our own kind’. Tom Juan will not receive any support from Ben Jealous, unless he comes out really, really, really vicious against the ‘white nationalist’ Tea Party. It appears that the left-wing liberation theological ideologists are toughening up their ranks, purging the weak, and preparing to do serious battle with the American people. And we thought Barack Obama had already dealt us some pretty heavy blows.

Since so many Lefties listen to NPR in the car, were they to react to Williams the way Whoopie and the other one reacted to O’Reilly, there could be traffic problems.

  • jaykali

I like npr, some of the programs are super far left but it seems like (at least to me) the drive-time shows try to feel a little more fair. i doubt i could ban npr fully when i need to kill time in the car but i pretty much have lost any sort of journalistic respect for them, i might have had a little before.

if you follow the trail it looks like o’reilly’s appearance on the view got juan fired. now maybe he’s laughing all the way to the bank (3 mil extension) but it is amusing that the oreilly storm off led to juan’s comments, which led to juan getting fired.

…is rarely given any notice but now is the time to notice. It is happening over and over as the Left expresses an intolerance for the opinions of Conservatives and others.

I hardly classify Bill O’Reilly or Juan Williams as Conservatives but it would seem if you are associated with FOX News, you are deemed one. Not that it is insulting, only inaccurate. Watch out Mr. Beckel!

Interestingly though, there are a few parallels to the Helen Thomas matter, yet in this case NPR is publicly funded with all taxpayer’s money. Time to examine whether or not continued funding is appropriate.

or XM. Lots of programming, including NPR, but no need for NPR. I almost never listen to NPR, unless it’s to hear something specific about local conditions.

    I think I last contributed in 2000.

There is no excuse for the continuation of its tax subsidies.

    and so was NPR.

Juan is worried about people in muslim garb? I’d be more worried abut the swarthy guys who aren’t.

O’Reilly: “You actually work for NPR….”

    Juan: “Yes.”

Whoops. I think it was just an excuse to fire him.

The CEO of NPR, Vivian Schiller implied he is crazy–It is really “between him and his, you know, psychiatrist….” They terminated his contract without talking to him; Roger Ailes “extended and expanded” his contract with Fox News, effective today.

    public funding.

    Good for him. Kill it.

  • Flagstaff

    A lot. Especially Steve Hayes.

  • Donald Ayotte

I ask you, why would Juan want his job back. He can certainly do better. He is not as conservative as I would like but he is a free thinker that will consider what is happening in America. People like this are the core of what America is about.

  • geemen73

I never agree with Juan on 99% of his analysis, But hes a nice guy that sometimes states the truth Im sure most of us feel the same way he does on a plane like our grandparents felt about the japanese and germans during wwII. This just goes to show that a respectful liberal like Juan who doesnt jump down your throat or walk off a stage when he disagrees with you has no place in todays democrat party, its been hijacked by frankly socialist, this is the same cr@p the nazis did during wwII when someone actually told the truth. As you can see with NPR they get there script from the DNC and the money from us to operate, and also George soros.. So on Jan 1 congress should immediately cut the funding off, let them go out in the real world and fight for viewership, and fail like the other three networks are and the air disaster radio network the socialist had. The Political Correctness stuff has to stop.. These news networks are making Joseph Goerbells look like a saint with their propaganda… Thats why their irrelavant, The people have awoken!

  • izoneguy

FOX just signed him up for 3 years and will be paying him 2 million dollars…..

I wonder how many more FOX leftys will be spouting their opinions???

I wonder what Bob Beckel will be saying???

  • JSobieski

On economic issues, he is a doctrinaire liberal. I hate listening to him talk about tax cuts or the stimulus.

He is honest though. He acknowleges that people don’t like Obamacare, even though I get the sense that he very much supported it.

  • izoneguy

looking at his 2 million dollar contract and saying “Capitalism & free speech” good – NPR & socialism – bad????

Let’s see if Juan can redeem himself and come over to the right side.

Now he can be on par with Hannity….

Juan was making a joke with Hannity last night about not being in Hannity’s financial league….this probably gets him a little closer.

So truth = hate on government radio. Big shock. Zap. Let’s keep Williams and fire NPR. And since it seem Fox hugely upped his contract, we’re halfway there.

And if Orwell’s Left thinks Williams has attitude about militant Islam, wait’ll they get a load of ME…

After I read your Nov. 15th article I saw the link thing to this diary. This is another topic I feel very strongly about. It was shameful, to say the least. Public Broadcasting and NPR need to go. I am actively pursuing this one, though not primarily here at Red State. I am still pursuing it actively like right now.

some of it is very interesting, some of it is pointless, some of it is very far left. overall i agree they are a far left organization, altho like i said i do enjoy some of their content.
