The D.C. Addiction Open Thread

Earlier today I received an email with the following video:

I like it, it is direct and it is true.  To borrow less, you have to spend less.

As has been noted by Erick multiple times the last few weeks, D.C. has a spending addiction.  So much so that even the cuts that they propose only cut the rate of spending rather than cutting what we are already spending.

Our “Dealers” have noticed that we are having a hard time paying for our addiction, already rating agencies in the U.S. and China have downgraded out credit.  The supply is going to run dry soon enough.

Meanwhile our government is left circling a room trying to explain the Keynesian logic of government spending, just like the coke addict below.

Keep chasing those rainbows boys…

Ya know… I keep hearin’ the word “conservatives” doled out like cheap whiskey… but some folks wouldn’t know a true conservative from a corn cobb.

Today… I heard some media-types freely assign that label to some disappointing congress-folks… and I feel just like the lonely-man… lookin’ for love… who, after lookin’ long and hard, eventually… finds a skunk.

Durin’ the love-fest… I have found that… it is not all that I wanted…

BUT IT’S ‘BOUT AS MUCH AS I CAN STAND.

See, what you’re currently experience about the word conservative is what I experience on a regular basis about the word libertarian. (hi, Neil)

Especially ironic as there’s a Ron Paul ad staring at me from the upper right corner of Red State.

Okay, enough’s enough. You’re very right, the media want to boil all the meaning out of the word “conservative”.

This is why, by the way, Buckley, Goldwater, and Reagan are all critical to conservatism – they wrote extensively, some original thought, some ancient, on what conservatism means. An intellectually muscular conservatism, not just a buzzword.

Too many, especially after Bush made hyphenated conservatism the vogue with his “compassionate-” water-down, treat conservatism like a cafeteria – pick and choose, a dollop of small-government, but no pro-life… – but that compromised, intellectually stunted form of conservatism cannot propser; once the root of individual liberty is removed from one issue, the slide to RINOhood is not hard. Witness John McCain, when he’s not running for something.

…has sold out to the RINOs.

I just can’t watch that BS anymore.

implies that other conservatives are not “compassionate.” To think when I was a kid I kind of fell for that distinction, what with all the MSM propaganda out there.
