Top Colorado Democrat Currently Registered to Vote in Both D.C. and Colorado

Though modern physicists are yet to figure out a way for one person to be in two places at the same time, the top spokesman for Colorado Democrats has figured out a way to vote in two places at once. Matt Inzeo, the communications director for the Colorado Democratic Party, holds active voter registrations in both Colorado and Washington, D.C., according to a voter fraud investigation by Media Trackers Colorado.

Colorado Democratic Party Communications Director Matt Inzeo

Publicly available voter registration records show that Inzeo registered to vote as a Democrat in Denver on March 1, 2012. However, his voter registration in Washington, D.C. — which dates back to January 10, 2006 — still remains active. Media Trackers spoke with an official at the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics last Thursday who confirmed that Inzeo’s D.C. voter registration remained active. The official told Media Trackers that while Inzeo did not vote in the district’s most recent 2012 election in April, he was certainly free and able to do so. Inzeo’s voter registration status in Colorado is also active according to public records.

Inzeo’s last vote in D.C. came in a special election held on April 26, 2011, roughly ten months before he registered to vote in Colorado.

Although Inzeo was first hired by the Colorado Democratic Party in May of 2011 according to his LinkedIn profile, he waited nearly a year before registering to vote in Colorado.  Inzeo’s voter registration became active a mere five days before the state party’s presidential nominating caucuses which were held on March 6, 2012.  State law requires prospective caucus participants to have been registered in the state for at least two months prior to voting in the caucus.

When Media Trackers attempted to contact Inzeo on his cell phone to ask whether he voted in the 2012 caucus, he abruptly hung up before providing any comment.

While holding an active voter registration in more than one jurisdiction at the same time is not specifically a crime, the mere ability to cast two votes raises serious questions about how states purge voter rolls of ineligible voters. Many states do not have effective rules in place to insure the integrity and validity of the voter rolls, leaving the door open for fraud and abuse. Voting rolls in Washington, D.C., for example, are purged only once every four years, while Colorado rolls are not purged on a regular basis at all.  Instead, the current system purges voters who have not participated in any of the two previous general elections.

Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler recently attempted to push through stronger vote integrity measures aimed at reducing the incidence of fraud, but a coalition of state Democrats — including Inzeo himself — and left-wing activists groups such as Common Cause sought to prevent the reforms.  In March, Inzeo and his boss, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Rick Palacio, suggested that Gessler be recalled from office for his reform attempts.

“If Scott Gessler is unwilling to fulfill his duties as a non-partisan election officer, the people of Colorado should consider all avenues necessary to remove him as Secretary of State,” Palacio said in a press release.  Palacio did not say at the time whether violent efforts like those of the Occupy movement fell within the category of “all avenues necessary” to remove an elected official from office.  The party chair’s press release was issued in response to Gessler’s testimony in the Colorado House against a measure that would have redefined inactive voters as active voters.

Colorado Common Cause lobbied for the redefinition of inactive voters and actively worked against Gessler and efforts by Colorado House Republicans to require photo identification to vote. Common Cause joined forces with Mi Familia Vota and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in litigation against Gessler, accusing him of voter suppression and violating federal election rules by performing actions meant to uphold the integrity of the Colorado voter rolls.

To date, the Inzeo-backed effort to recall Gessler has been less than successful.

are registered at home and vote by absentee ballot and then also vote in the state of their college of university.

Dual registration is not illegal? For some reason, I thought it was.

  • acat

Dual registration is not, in itself, illegal.

I continue to point out that there is one federal agency that already knows where all the taxpayers live…. and that could make all of this go away very easily…. the IRS.

Require proof of having filed a 1040 to be able to vote.

Not having paid in, not having gotten money back, not having earned jack nor squat. Having *filed* *a* *1040*.

to his office, but I am afraid he’d fill them all out. :) .

  • dt

Not everyone is obiged to file a federal tax return.See http://www.smartmoney.com/taxes/income/in-some-cases-you-dont-need-to-file-a-tax-return-20713/

  • acat

But .. if you *want* to vote … you file the 1040.

    Simple.

    Mew

  • dt

I’m pretty sure your plan is both unconstitutional and a really bad idea to boot.

  • acat

At this point, I’m pretty sure you’re not capable of it, but .. I’m willing to be proven wrong.

For your information, lots of people who “aren’t obligated” to file 1040s do so anyway, usually to claim credits and get a “welfare refund”.

  • PowerToThePeople

or are you a mouth trapping leftist who wants to keep voter fraud safe and secure?

Voting is not a right, requiring folks to prove they are legitimate voters does not infringe on any persons rights.

  • dt

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

  • acat

Lots of people get *more money back* than they put in. That is not “paying a tax” under any possible definition of the terms.

As for Congress, well .. perhaps if they were as interested in enforcing ballot box integrity as they are in enforcing ballot box access, we wouldn’t need to have this conversation, eh?

  • dt

See my response above. And no, I’m not a “moth trapping leftist” whatever that’s supposed to mean, I also believe that the Constitution permits the state to make reasonable inquiries as to whether a voter is legitimate. I do disagree with you as to whether voting is a right, however, and I’m pretty sure, that but for the exceptional case (e.g., felons in certain states), Amendments 14, 15, 19, 23, 24, and various arguments that could be made on equal protection grounds support my point.

  • dt

I take it you’re not an attorney? Because I’d stake my bar license that no court in the land would buy your argument.

  • acat

Gives other attorneys a bad name, y’see.

I’m not one, but .. I’m smart enough to know that there is a factual difference between filing a 1040 and paying taxes.

Either cite a case showing where the courts found differently, or mail me your license.

Do you mean to require proof of filing a 1040 in addition to a DL or other proof of citizenship? I ask because wasn’t there a story a while back about illegal immigrants who filed 1040′s for the child care credit?

  • acat

and the IRS is supposed to be pretty good at tracking down where someone’s actual legal (i.e. vote-from-here) home is.

All those double-registered college students would have one IRS “voter ticket” – so could only vote once.

I’m figuring that the IRS problem with illegals is easily solvable using E-Verify, by the way. Grinding two massive government databases against each other is what they’re good at!

Prevent the states from taking steps to ensure that everyone on the voter rolls is a citizen, they merely grant to citizens the right to vote if they are of appropriate age. They protect citizens from being denied the right to vote. Equal protection ensures the steps taken are the same for everyone i.e. the rules are the same for everyone. The courts could conceivably rule that requiring a drivers license may in fact not be equal but that is argument for a court not for Eric Holder. The state of Florida should continue to take steps to legitimize it’s voter roles and tell Holder if he doesn’t like it, they will see him at the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals,

  • Tbone

Maybe I will stop by for a drink.

  • Tbone

    nt

  • acat

that looks like a drivers license – in fact, for most people it is *also* their drivers’ license, but the ID is issued to those who can’t drive and need a legal ID and clearly says “can’t drive”….

The point is, for a State that already requires a “State ID” to cash a welfare check or buy a beer to *not* require one to receive a ballot is .. odd.

    Mew

    * the nominal fee required is about the only angle to protest this as it “may tend to disenfranchise the extremely poor” .. but it’s kinda blown full of holes by the whole “need ID to cash welfare check” point.

  • Dave_A

Little bit of a thread-jack, but if there is any agency better equipped to audit for compliance with immigration-employment law & punish violators…

And any agency business tends to want to AVOID running afoul of…

    I don’t know of one…

The IRS already audits firms for proper maintenance of W4 records & income information for withholding…

Designating required documentation of legal-status, requiring that it be validated electronically & documentation of such be kept on file… And having the IRS audit that too, would allow their core competencies to help address another national problem beyond funding the government…

  • ihateliberals

Isn’t this the Democrats way. Without Voter ID he can hire someone to be him in CO while he votes in DC. Very simple. Ever noticed how there re always more Democrats that Vote than there are Democrats?

  • merryj1

…inviting the IRS “nose” under that tent in this polarized and politicized atmosphere, and with overreach tendencies permeating federal agencies from the DOJ and EPA to the ends of the alphabet, I doubt whether a full election cycle would pass without a spike in IRS audits of voters with an “R” following their names on Primary Election “D & R” sheets.

  • funwithknives

what would he exclaim iffin’ he was asked about Heinlein’s Rules for Voting, after a short ‘splainin’ ??
I just know ‘acat’ is aware of ‘em, but he probably didn’t want to start up two debates at once.

I might be off-point but sometimes, that’s just me being me….

  • gmhunt

You must be a “left” wing, everyone knows attorneys are crooked and us the Law to get the free………so I and most others would love to see you lose your
bar license…………you are probably registered in to state also. Congress should pass a law making it a felony to be registered to vote in two states…that would end the fraud………

  • tnfriendofcoal101368

I am saying an activist judge could conceivably rule against Florida but they should purge their rolls and make Holder take them to court and not knuckle under to the DOJ trying to play the thug.

  • justperhaps45

I grew up in Illinois. I thought that Republicans got to vote once and Democrats 4 or more times if they wished.

    What’s the problem?

Not recycleable, you can’t put it in a compost bin, and dumps won’t take it cheaply.

Forgot about the consequences. Maybe this is an opportunity I’m missing?
Starting off Now and gettin’ ready for November just might be a bright move.
Now, where to put the facility…?

During the ramp up to 2008, Democrat activists were promoting the idea of college students voting “at home” via absentee while voting at their college site which one would think would be illegal since you are only supposed to have one drivers license. There were also stories of New York retirees voting in New York via mail in ballot and in Florida while living there. Whatever happened to one person, one vote? An Ohio judge ruled that a park bench could be considered an address for voter registration purposes. Seriously, this points to the lengths Democrats will go to insure a win. It also demonstrates why voter ID is so very important.

I cringe at the thought of the IRS doing anything else. In fact, I would love to repeal the 16th and close the agency.

  • acat

The IRS is feared by *both* parties… NOBODY wants a *more* political IRS.

(using “more political” here as the IRS have been sicc’d upon GOPers by Dem POTUSes in the past .. and there’s rumor that Nixon used ‘em the same way)
