The Daily Show: Happy Meal Ban Idiocy

Via Hot Air, the below video is MY Happy Meal of the day.

Daily Show Full Episodes

This whole thing is great end to end, but the real money comes in around 3:02. Comedy show or not, I’ve never seen a nanny-stater get so completely obliterated by his own words so quickly or so definitively. Absolute gold.

Previously: War On Food McEscalating

Related: Ed Driscoll points out some interesting facts about kids in San Francisco. Or more accurately, families with kids LEAVING San Fran. Gee … wonder why.

when it’s staring them in the face?? They just got smacked down by a comedy show for crying out loud!

BTW, can John Stewart please show this to Michelle Obama the next time she’s blathering on about her “initiatives”? I’d LOVE to see her reaction. But…….it probably wouldn’t sink in with her just like that moron interviewed in this clip.

    stereotype.

  • joepyne

But, you do know that was video taped with him (whoever that guy was) inserted into the interview tape? Right?

Gavin “whats is name” and the other idiot were talking to some news person.

Nevertheless, it was beyond belief funny!

Wanna-be-cop: Excuse me Officer. Is that a donut you’re holding?

    Real cop: Uh, yeah.

Wanna-be-cop: Please step out of the car.

When the moron from SF was saying he lacked the power to do to NetFlix what he was just doing to McD’s, it was him, face-front, not the back-of-the-head stand-in. He knew he was being an ignoranus (no misspelling).

  • tankertodd

That was phenomenal. “We can’t force a private company to change their business practices.” YAH REALLY???

  • nilram

Did he really say “Without the toy, the kids won’t eat the food.”? Or something to that effect?

I have the opposite problem. I have trouble getting my kids to eat because they are too busy playing with the damn toy!

    • earlgrey

kids will be more likely to eat more of the “bad” meal.

Plus if there is no incentive to buy the Happy Meal than why not order from the regular menu? A quarter pounder with cheese has 510 calories vs. 300 for a cheeseburger.

      • nilram

I tend to avoid places that have kids meals (with toys) just because I don’t want the toy fight. So, if anything, a ban like this would make me more inclined to buy the kids meal.

But I think it’s instructive to notice that *I* am the one making the decisions here. NOT my children.

They are unabashed liberals, and Jon Stewart is completely unwilling to be swayed by another opinion, but they at least poke fun at both sides.

Asif Maanvi did the exact same thing about the labour movement somewhere picketing Wal Mart with non union, non benefit minimum wage workers, and he did the same sort of “gotcha” interview.
