My son had some homework about power – how it’s made and what resources are used to make it. Of course they have a big push in there about “electric” cars and “green” technology. I told my son to tell his teacher that “electric” cars are really coal powered cars. He asked me what did that mean. I explained that the power the electric car gets to charge it’s batteries was probably generated from a coal powered power plant. I told him to tell his teacher that. I am one of his teachers favorite parents….he he he…

that the Nissan Leaf vehicle, being composed of mostly metal and synthetic materials, needs about a barrel or so of raw petroleum just to fabricate the plastic parts and assemblies? And the tires, lubricants, belts, hoses, etc. are also derived from petroleum products. This man challenged an opponent to a battle of wits, and he was obviously unarmed. He reminds me of a few of those interview subjects Reason TV videoed at the 9/12 rally last year. When some were asked “Do you believe Obama is a Keynesian?” one really ‘sharp’ respondent became indignant, replying “he was born in America;” another,”you can see his birth certificate online.” Their arrogance is inversely proportional to their intelligence; their greatest fear is being perceived as unhip or uncool so they stay close to the herd. Although I think “Kenny G’s” mind is made up on the subject of carbon-based energy for now, I think he will find himself in the same reality boat we’ll all be in if Obama’s plans for subsidized green energy take hold. His doubt will be force him to decide whether to leave the herd. If he still adopts the same position in his original argument, then it will be sadly confirmed that he and the rest of the herd had a serious cognitive disorder all along.

Seeing that brainwashed kid makes me worry about the future. I bet he couldn’t tell you where electricity comes from, except from the outlet. Time to take a hard charge on education and bring our youth back into reality from fantasyland.

It’s not surprising to me how people like this don’t see a problem with telling the rest of the world to live simpler lives, and it’s not even surprising that they always seem to have a reason why it doesn’t apply to them (“I have to get my kids to school”, “I’m moving to DC to be a bigger agitator”, “My hours are crazy”, “I have to get to the environmental conference that just HAPPENS to be in an exotic locale”, etc).

What DOES amaze me is how they can not understand that all of the people they want to impose thier views on have the SAME issues.

I guess you can’t let something like intellectual honesty get in the way when you’re protecting Mommy Earth. As Dogbert said – “you can’t save the planet without making other people sacrifice”

The problem with most young environmentalists like the guy “confronting” McElhinney here, the problem that really gets my goat, is their ignorance. Couple that with their self-righteousness and it’s all you can do not to smack ‘em to get their brains restarted.

Electric cars? Where does he think the electricity is going to come from? If every American suddenly got an electric car, how many more power plants would need to be built to power these cars? How many of these plants would be fossil fuel burning plants?

What state and its environment is he willing to pave over with solar panels to provide barely enough power to run New York? Does he know anything about the energy conversion efficiency of solar panels? What state and its environment is he willing to cover with wind turbines to do the same?

Does he know anything about energy portability? How do you make sure the energy generated by those sun and wind farms get to where they’re needed when due? Does he know the infrastructure cost? Does he even know what energy portability means?

Again, if every American got an electric car, where does he think the batteries are going to come from? What does he think batteries are made of? Is he aware of the environmental impact of lithium mining and does he really think it’s renewable?

Once you let them know how little they know, they tend to pipe down quite a bit.

What ever happened to common sense, if you are going to open your mouth try not to weaken the nation (and your credibility).

This kid says he doesn’t have the capital to afford an electric car. How does he envison the vast majority of middle class Americans are going to afford an overpriced electric car and still be able to pay the higher income taxes required to subsidize those vehicles? Like most liberals, they don’t practice what they preach.

The classic point was when he walked away from the conversation when confronted with tough questions and logic. Typical environmental and liberal reaction. They don’t have the intellectually capacity to make an intelligent argument based on facts and logic so when confronted with intelligent questions, they walk away.

I would have asked the guy one more line of questions:

Ann: Do you pay taxes?
Him: Of course I do.
Ann: Do you like the fact that your taxes give rich people a $7500 rebate so they can buy an electric car that you say you can’t afford?
Him: Complete silence…..

Sometimes when I watch video, or more distressing yet, live arguments like this, I feel like Kiran Chetry. She complained it was exhausting defending Oblahblah’s policies. I feel just downright exhausted when I argue common sense with the disciples of MSNBC. The constant rapid-fire talking points; the opinions without research, and the condescension of the liberal elietists is sometimes almost overwhelming.

The more I argue with them, the more I have come to believe that all I’m doing is bringing myself down to the level of the village idiot! When the discussion is over they still believe they’re right – just like this numbskull did.

Correlating to my comment on Chris Christie, I think one of the big problems that elected representatives have is that the minute they get to DC they start looking, talking and acting like DC habitues instead of like the people they were before they were elected.

The GOP made gains in 2010 yes because people were fed up with the direction of Obama’s administration, but also because the grass roots themselves spoke and organized. The job now is to keep those roots healthy and vibrant. If the representative would spend two days “on the ground” for every week they spend in DC, the people would be informed and empowered. We could not lose.

They never have plausible, honesty arguments, so anything that comes out of their mouths is indefensible.
