YUGE news today that Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg will not be running for President.

In a statement at Bloomberg titled "The Risk I Will Not Take", the former mayor explains the reason he won't be rushing in to rescue the GOP from it's critical lack of a Bloomberg candidacy:

As the race stands now, with Republicans in charge of both Houses, there is a good chance that my candidacy could lead to the election of Donald Trump or Senator Ted Cruz. That is not a risk I can take in good conscience.

I have known Mr. Trump casually for many years, and we have always been on friendly terms. I even agreed to appear on “The Apprentice” -- twice. But he has run the most divisive and demagogic presidential campaign I can remember, preying on people’s prejudices and fears. Abraham Lincoln, the father of the Republican Party, appealed to our “better angels.” Trump appeals to our worst impulses.

All the oh noes!!!

Leon has noted previously at RedState that the only thing to commend a Bloomberg run would be that he is not precisely Donald Trump. Ironic, then, that this is the reason he gives for not running.

Had he run third party, though, it's hard to believe that he wouldn't get at least some protest voting if it came down to Trump and Hillary. C'est la vie.
