(VIDEO) Obama Speech on Death of Bin Laden

I’m sure someone will have a breakdown of the amount of self congratulation in this speech, but tonight let’s just be happy that Osama Bin Laden has already found out that there aren’t going to be any virgins.

They all look like Helen Thomas, Rosie O’Donnell, and Joy Behar. And a few that resemble Lawrence O’Donnell and Keefums, too.

Do you think The One told the military to hold off until after the Wedding of the Century? Or did he try to get them in there on Friday? Just exactly when did this happen, anyway?

    • BlueLandRed

Obama would have been very foolish to do anything but let the Officer in Charge of the mission determine the timing.

      • Flagstaff

        Hands up, Osama!

Do you surrender? One word and you’re dead meat.

You are right, of course. Timing is Obama’s worst subject.

        • drsandykramer

          What a schmuck…

OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA! USA! USA! USA! OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!

The moment the bullet hit Bin Laden’s head, the world was a better place. Let us hope that this marks a turning point in the Middle East, at a time of possible moves toward democracy in many of those countries.

Congradulations to the brave men who carried out this mission, to all the careful intelligence work, and the Secretary of Defense and the President.

Thank god wikileaks didn’t learn about this and sabotage the mission. From reports, this was known only to a very small group, directly overseen by Secretary Gates and Obama.

This a time when a pinko tax-and-spend liberal can celebrate with a Goldwater conservative. Bin Laden was our sworn enemy, and now he is dead. He picked the fight, and we ended it … at least with him.

And just because I’m a liberal, don’t confuse me with a pacifist (and I won’t confuse any conservative with an isolationist).

I just wish all this had happened eight years ago. I apologize for any perceived Bush-bashing, but he did admit on national television that he didn’t give much thought to Bin Laden only six months after September 11, 2001. And didn’t all his touchy-feely, let’s-spread-democracy vibe creep out anyone else?

However, the worst thing about this press conference WASN’T his admission that he didn’t think much about Bin Laden, but that he was somehow magically going to instill “hope” in the Iraqi people and that was going to fix the unrest in the Middle East. He sounded like Woodrow Wilson, and it was weird.

But heck, maybe it worked. Who knows? Maybe the revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Syria wouldn’t be happening if America HADN’T invaded Iraq.

Or maybe Iran will gain a stronger foothold in Syria/Lebanon and the Muslim Brotherhood (whoever the eff they are) will take control of Egypt and open the border with Gaza, and the region will be in worse shape than it ever was, with Israel right in the middle of it all.

Then who do we blame? Bush? Obama? Catter? The British for carving it all up wrong to begin with?

That was a pretty good speech. I think it carried the right amount of quiet arrogance, pride, jubilation, and explanation. I think if that were the only thing our enemies had seen of us for the last few years the would be wary, though not quivering in their boots.

    • michael_j_lambert

I didn’t actually count the self references. However, my future mother- and sister-in-law did.

      • Flagstaff

        kind of family.

  • Doc Holliday

    he is chum now.

Who made the decision to bury Bin Laden at sea? Is there no one advising President Obama capable of historical perspective and the growth of myth? Without physical confirmation of his death, Bin Laden enters Muslim myth. Remember the myths surrounding “El Cid” and “King Arthur” as well as the other myths of the undying or eternal hero? The body of Bin Ladin should have been produced and exhibited through the media, independent and Muslim witnesses should have been allowed to examine the body. Then when his death had been fully established, the body should have been disposed in accordance with the practices of General Arthur McArthur in dealing with the Moros. “Burial at sea” a Muslim custom? Dumb, Dumber & Dumbest rule in Washington.

it actually makes a lot of sense. Firstly, I have no problem with giving a nod to the religious customs of burial within 24 hours. Parading the body for examination or display would have been monumentally stupid & insensitive.

Secondly, burial at sea gives his disciples no fixed site to celebrate or rally around. They’ve got nothing.

My expectation is that “burial at sea”, while technically correct, refers to the process of stuffing his ass into the barrel of a large gun & pulling the trigger.

        dumping it in the sea.

        • justicedildo

I heard Colin Powell, a fellow Obama supporter, skull-fracked Osama’s body before it was dumped. Ha ha!

Osama body was quite unceremoniously kicked out of the side door of a helicopter into the Arabian Sea.

Congratulations to the military and intelligence communities for a job well done. The world is a better place this morning.

And congratulations to Obama: For once in your Presidency, you ignored your base and your instincts and let the people who know what they’re doing take care of a task. (Any chance you could learn this lesson on the economy, health care and, well, basically everything else?)

  • stigmo

Not trying to be a tinfoil hat guy about this, and please don’t ban me…but are we SURE that this deed was done when the evidence has been destroyed?

    • qsclues

      Two reasons:

      1) If this was fake, it would have been done much closer to the election.

      2) To make it up and risk severe embarrassment by having bin Laden show up again would be a nightmare for Obama.

So yes, it has been done. Rejoice.

      • stigmo

Count me among those stunned that he was still alive. I thought he was done at Tora Bora…and if not by natural causes.

  • Wayne

Let’s rejoice in the sweetness of revenge and victory for a few days, then refocus on riding the world of these religious fanatics claiming to be acting in the name of their God.

They are the enemy of the free thinking and civilized people of the world, not just America. All countries should be willing to admit that, including the Islamic communities. It is a war that will go on until the end of time based on what I know (I do not claim to be a scholar on the subject) and America cannot fight this fight alone. But, if we must, the world has seen what it is to be an enemy of our nation. If one needs another lesson in history, here it is. Nothing more needs to be said.

    My two cents..
