Governor Rick Perry & Rep. Mick Mulvaney Join the Inaugural Broadcast of ‘The Ben Howe Show’

If you haven’t been keeping up, I’ve been neck deep in a contest to get my own radio show on one of the largest radio stations in the southeast, WBT out of Charlotte, NC. You can see the stages of the contest here, here, & here. After much spamming of twitter and the gracious web real estate of RedState.com, the first day of my new show has finally arrived.

Well…sort of. Actually believe it or not, the contest isn’t over. The final stage of the contest was to have a committee choose the ultimate winner of the contest after the votes had been cast to determine the last two contestants. In order to remedy this, they decided to give me and the other finalist, Bobby DeMuro, a chance to show our stuff this month. We are each getting two shows in the month of January.

Bobby’s first one was last week, mine is tonight.

And what a show it will be! I’ll have none other than Governor Rick Perry on my show to discuss his campaign in South Carolina. We recorded it this morning and there were some minor connection issues, but I urge you to listen in.

Joining me live around 6:15 will be South Carolina superstar Congressman Mick Mulvaney to discuss our Social Security crisis and his endorsement of Governor Perry.

I’ll also be discussing Solyndra, throwing money in holes, myths about the tax code, Climate Gate 2 and much more.

If you’re on twitter and want to shout out to me, use the hashtag #TBHS. If you want to call in, just dial 704.570.1110!

Listen to the show online here from 6-9 pm EST tonight.

Tell Governor Perry to stay in the race until he wins, or until he causes the naysayers & ill-wishers unbearable anxiety. Ideally, these two scenarios can occur simultaneously. :D

100% Team Perry ’til the last dog dies~

A couple things to ask or relay to Gov Perry please:

1)Ask Perry to stay in the race for the long haul. Try to get a conformation if he will, even if he comes in last in SC.

The more people sitting on the fence that wonder if Perry is in this for the long haul the more support he will get and it will also help his staunch supporters and their nerves :-) .

Strategy ? Perry last non-Romney candidate standing. Santorum doesn?t have the organization won?t attract the non-evangelicals voters as well as Perry and would be a disaster in the general. Perry is far more electable than Santorum both in the primary (long haul) and in the general. That is why it is important for Perry to be in this for the long haul.

SC unemployment is much higher than Iowa so Perry?s job record should be attractive and hopefully balance out the Santorum social conservative block ? which leads me to point 2.

2)Let Perry know – it?s the economy. The more Perry talks about his own record of creating jobs and less regulation which separates him from the others the better. Other candidates (like Santorum) can only talk it but Perry has actually done these things.

Let him know that the passion he displayed and how he did at the forum yesterday was just wonderful – the passion really was something else.

    Thank you.

relaxed he even seemed to be charming Mike Huckabee. It was rather amazing. He did so well on that Forum and I read RickPerryReport and it sounded like a lot of undecideds after that Forum were liking Perry. So that was good. I can’t believe what ‘some evangelicals” did to Gov. Perry. I am glad that Rick Perry has some good friends that stick by him through thick and thin.

      • trevorb

certainly enjoyed seeing him on the stage and thought he did quite well. We’ll see if it really makes a difference for him in South Carolina.

and FNC crew will say, “Perry did well, but can he overcome being Castro?” and no matter how Romney does (short of coming out and saying he rapes babies and puppies) they will say, he held his own, didn’t shoot himself in the foot and crack out the champagne.

Here’s what I find abhorent: FNC has a poll on it’s Happening Now page and it has Perry in FIRST, closely followed by Paul and then down in the teens are the rest. Charleston ABC News also has a poll and it has Paul at 56% and Perry at 34% and the rest below 5%. So, a lot of someones are voting for Perry. Here’s my take on why they SAY he’s polling so low, right under that FNC poll is another and it doesn’t even have Perry’s name on, yet Shep said based on two polls and put Perry way down in 5th!!—meaning he combined the numbers, not the percents of the two polls which is the worst of three choices he could made—break out the polls and confess Perry’s (and HUntsman’s) names weren’t on one and give that number OR add the percentages together (o plus six=3) OR count the number of votes added together, giving the skewed 5th…Now how honest is that??? With that kind of “reporting” who the heck knows what’s really going on (other than FNC being Romney’s shill)???? Their motive—people want to back a “winner” and they feel by stacking the deck, they can make people vote for willie. That will hand the election to BO. Because how in the world am I to go get people fired up to vote for BO-lite????

With Recess appointments currently running amok.. I think Perry might have some fun with the topic.

Ben good luck on your show and thanks for having Governor Perry so he can continue to get his message out. If you can forward this message to him it would be appreciated.
    To Governor Perry:
Oh how we want you to win. You are the best. You were excellent on the Huckabee Forum. Stay with the energy. We loved seeing the PASSION. No one has it in the field. Stay positive on jobs, economy, cleaning up congress and ridding American’s of Obama. A woman on RedState wrote an open letter to Governor Rick Perry. She was so right on. Read it and take it to heart. We are on your side. I believe you are our only chance to make big changes in Washington DC

“I?ll have none other than Governor Rick Perry on my show to discuss his campaign in South Carolina. We recorded it this morning and there were some minor connection issues…..”

(This is not to suggest giving up writing questions to your candidate per se. Gov Perry has penned a a few posts here before and may see any thoughts you want to send his way. )

  • westcoastpatriette

The connection did make it a little difficult to hear Perry, but it wasn’t so bad that you couldn’t figure out what he was saying.

Good luck with your shows this month and I hope you win the final vote.

  • kestrel

Your first hour in particular was great. Here’s a question for anyone who knows the answer: Is Mulvaney correct that most states’ balanced budget requirements don’t have “taxpayer protections” such as requiring supermajorities to raise taxes? Did I understand that correctly? If so, it is fodder for thought on state v. federal. I’m inclined to want the supermajority requirement and the tie to GDP in a federal amendment.

Ben, your bad phone connection with Gov. Perry did hurt the interview with Perry, despite of your earlier assurance that, “It’ll still be excellent because I’m the one doing the questioning.” Ha ha. But Perry sure knows what Washington needs. No doubt about it.

Mulvaney is after my own heart in his reason for endorsing Perry — that Perry is willing to take on the tough issues such as balancing the budget and putting social security on a sound footing, and has the record to back it up. I couldn’t have said it better.

  • romansdaughter

Yes, I hope lots of SC heard that and what with the Huckabee Forum that should help Gov. Perry. He is awesome!

    • buster93

Perry did great!!! A genuine American because he loves our country !!
Obama cannot match his record. Romney as candidate =Obama 2nd term. Are we ready?

  • bzip

I am sorry, I don’t mean to thread jack here but I don’t know where to put this breaking news:

    https://twitter.com/#!/Rebecca_CBSNJ
Huntsman to leave the race, poised to endorse Romney. Story coming.

    • buster93

2 very moderate Republicans . Last Conservative standing is Rick Perry!!!

    • languedoctor

Perry’s best hope was for someone else to win S.C., keeping things messy until he had a chance to recover.

That’s not going to happen. There was a path forward for Gingrich, Perry, and even Santorum, but that path did not include Mitt Romney running the table in January.

If Romney wins IA, NH, SC, and FL, this thing is over, and the rest of the field knows it.

Let the post mortems begin. :(

      • pttx333

lost, not by a long shot. Look for Santorum to drop out next, but Perry will not. He’s going all the way. Do not ever get him down for the count, he gets back up every time. Think of the tortoise and hare story … Perry is the tortoise. Just hang in there.

        • languedoctor

My first reaction, though, was “you have to be kidding.” Romney’s been on the defensive. The Bain stuff hasn’t *really* hurt, but it does seem like it was starting to catch on – at least a little bit. Thie timing is bad because it lets Romney change the subject and get back on his message, which seems to consist of presenting himself as the inevitable candidate, talking about uniting to defeat a common enemy, etc. etc

I worry because my state is next, and Florida is tough. It’s not cheap to campaign here,

Oh well. That’s enough for one day. I’ll see how things look in the morning….

          • languedoctor

I didn’t mean to imply that your post set me off, or anything. Just to be clear. :)

          • pttx333

to even think that you were implying anything – wasn’t a thought in mind that direction. Nope, nor am I attempting to try to push you into anything. I always HATE being bird-dogged and it just isn’t my style to do it to others. We are here to share ideas, thoughts, ask questions, and everyone makes up his/her own mind. How’s that?

          • pttx333

been blessed to have voted for my Governor every time he has run for office and have never ever been sorry. Have I agreed with him 100% of the time? No, but he listens, he asks you for your opinions and can, and has, back walked his original position. But there is no one on this planet with whom I would ever agree with 100% – so it is a no-brainer for me.

Unlike those from other states, Most of us Texans have had the luxury of living under his good governance all of these years knowing there is a strong, steady hand at the wheel who will do everything within his power to keep us safe and lead us to better things … and he has the record to prove it. There are those here who cannot stand him – mainly transplants from other states (CA), the Bushies, the trial lawyers (because Perry signed into law the tort reform act!) and the loony Paul types. But Perry still wins.

So, yes, I understand your reluctance to be me or even him, but all I can say is that I am a living, breathing happy customer who has been a live witness all along.

            Think about it, look around.

  • laura211

What Romney has promised Huntsman… If he is making an endorsement on the sme day he drops out, then Romney has promised him some type of cabinet position if he wins. I guess Romney is going to buy his way to the nomination.

    • buster93

Rick Perry has a record of job creation!!! Let it be known!!!!
Romney vs Perry in Florida. Get the drums going. !!! Friday Night Lights let it begin!!!!

  • greyeagle

The next will be Santorum of course endorsing Romney. Perry will be the last conservative standing. Keep in the race Governor, we are depending on you.

    • laura211

it will be between us and the Mitts, just the way we want it. We will put our job creation record up against his (and Obama’s) anyday!

Stay the course Governor, we have your back

    • flgal208

and if Perry can hang in there, Newt will jump on his wagon and bring Sarah &Todd Palin with. I think Sarah’s holding out to see if Newt/Perry does a Santorum in SC; however, if Perry gives another KNOCKOUT debate like last night, she could jump early.

If she’s the Kingmaker, maybe she wants to pull a Coach Jimmie Johnson and see how much pull she really has AND she does NOT like romney at all. Think about a Perry, Newt & Sarah team up. Those three could really pull off a grassroots movement and no matter how much money Romney has, he can’t touch that….

Bottom line, if Sarah & Newt help Rick, he could pull off the great upset and that would give us all hope the country can be fixed. Man, I’d tap Newt as an adviser and Sarah in the DEPT of Energy or whatever agency is left and oversee opening up Alaska. I’d tap Col West as the SecDef and sic Paul on the Reserves :)
