Buzzfeed Uses Vice Presidential Selection to Bash Sarah Palin

I'm about as shocked as you are.

Earlier today, BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins put up a hit piece citing an anonymous source that claims the Romney team’s choice in Paul Ryan is especially awesome because Sarah Palin totally sucks.

Each response from the campaign, if they are indeed from the campaign, are fairly benign to Mrs. Palin until Coppins inserts his own opinion.

According to the article, one source said, “Paul Ryan has been a leader on these issues for years. He’s not an unknown quantity. He may bring the same excitement to conservatives… But this wasn’t a base move.” It seems fairly clear that this source is referring to the fact that Sarah Palin was a virtual unknown at the time versus Ryan who has been at the tip of the spear in the battle against White House policy. Not a statement on the virtues of Palin but seemingly a emotionless statement on the celebrity status at the time of introduction. Coppins read it a bit differently.

But aides were quick Saturday to reject the early analysis that choosing Ryan represents a “Sarah Palin pick” for Romney — a high-risk move intended to turn around a flailing campaign by elevating a polarizing politician.

“Polarizing politician” is a stunning description of Sarah Palin considering her 82% approval rating in Alaska at the time not to mention that the “unknown quantity” would probably diminish her ability to have been a “polarizing politician” since, one would assume, people have to know who you are to feel polarized by you. It is difficult to see how Coppins drew this description out of the quote provided by the source, but Coppins wasn’t done yet.

“I do think this is a game-changer,” the adviser said, adding, “I think there’s going to be a whole swath of the Midwest that looks at this bright, young, very energetic guy, and is won over.”

But he said one central difference between Ryan and Palin is that the former will be able to hold his own on policy details.

“Gosh, can you imagine that Vice Presidential debate with Joe Biden spouting Mediscare type slogans, and Paul Ryan walking through the numbers?” the adviser said. “The contrast there is going to be astounding.”

There seems to be zero discussion of Palin in this excerpt other than Coppins insertion of her in the article. The contrast mentioned is very clearly directed at Joe Biden, yet Coppins presents it as a comparison of competence between her and Ryan. If any direct comparison between Palin & Ryan were made he seems to have forgotten to include it.

The only quote that could’ve been construed as a slight at Mrs. Palin still stretches interpretation from anyone that claims to be unbiased.

Another senior adviser, commenting on the comparison in an e-mail to BuzzFeed, was more sarcastic: “The number one policy wonk in the country… Sarah Palin…?”

Certainly this could be interpreted as an insult. However, with Sarah Palin as a female governor known for giving fiery speeches and causing explosions of excitement from legions of adoring fans versus Ryan, who is also a hero to the movement, but is mostly known for his methodical dismantling of policy using a devastatingly calm demeanor … I think I might’ve had the same response. They aren’t exactly cut from the same cloth.

But again, Coppins immediately goes to his own opinion of her to define the meaning of the quote.

Indeed, few would accuse Ryan — who has been considered the intellectual leader of Congressional conservatives for years — of being a lightweight. (emphasis mine)

I don’t know if Coppins thinks of himself as an unbiased reporter, or not, but if he does, this article is loaded with hackery. It takes a collection of quotes which were clearly redirecting the interviewer away from questions intended to divide and attempts to cause them to divide anyway.

If there were more damning quotes, I’m certain he would have used them. As it stands Coppins appears to be constructing a narrative that fits his worldview. “I hate Sarah Palin and so should you.”

The media is obsessed with their Palin hatred.

  • kentucky

if Palin had been introduced to the public on her own terms, instead of being thrown into the spotlight. If she hadn’t been nominated for VP, she still could have wowed us in the primary this year and could have taken the time to surround herself with advisors that know federal issues.

    • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

and she’s still a lightweight red meat tosser.

She’s good at tossing red meat and riling up a segment of the base. She’s fundamentally an entertainer and a pretty good one. She’s a lousy politician.

      • skip1982

don’t need to have campaigning clothes bought for them.

      • happyhistorian

than Barack Hussein Obama feeding me constant “sh-t” from the Marxist Socialist Communist Progressive playbook of Saul Alinsky, Karl Marx, Mao Tse Tung and Hugo Chavez. Also, she is a great sight to behold and to me that is certainly entertaining!

        • tngal

Actually, I think its best she didn’t make it VP. She has a commanding presence in the conservative world and is doing an awesome job highlighting decent candidates. Picking just the right ones with enough conservatism, clout, money, and potential to win their various races.

If they are too far down in money or poll numbers she backs off, but her nudge is enough to send a second or third place true conservative into the winners circle.

        • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

effective as POTUS that Obama – or, for that matter, any better as VP than Biden – you need a 12 step group.

          • bluemount

How has BHO been an effective POTUS? As for Biden, what has he done exactly?

          • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

And Palin would have been too.

We’d have somewhat different issues today, but she’s an utterly incompetent leader. And, “firing up the base” isn’t leadership. Obama’s pretty good at that too.

Biden’s never accomplished a thing. Frankly, neither has Palin. Her “signature” programs from her cut-and-run governorship are all pretty much toast and she couldn’t get elected to the Wasala (sp?) city council.

She’s an excellent entertainer, nothing more. And she’ll make a very good living from it, I wish her well.

          • rabun1016

That is good. Agree with you. No ill will toward her. But facts are hard to ignore.

          • http://libertynews.com/ mbecker908

And she couldn’t run a lemonade stand for very long.

    • aesthete

when McCain picked her in 2008 — she was a moderate, center-right reformist governor somewhat in McCain’s mold when she was picked, and racked up a fair amount of debt (and taxes, as well) as AK’s governor. It was only after the positive response among conservatives to Palin’s Midwestern image and straightforward speechifying, that she became a red meat tosser. More likely than not, her popularity would have fizzled as AK’s governor and she would have been either an also-ran, or one of those dark horse candidates that never seemed to materialize.

  • norris

to see Sarah Palin , I would not cross the street to see Coppins and Biden together. She is quicker and smarter than the both of them together.

  • achapman

    Sarah, who?

    • clintonformccain

…who is still refusing to endorse the Republican nominee for President against Barack Obama?

  • tomjeffersonsghost

She’s not refusing to endorse Romney. I believe your talking points memo maker busted a fuse there sport.

She’s said on more than one occasion that Mitt Romney must be elected because President Obama couldn’t wipe his butt without getting crap on fifty percent of his hand and none on the toilet paper.

By the way tell your mom to stop calling me..I ain’t your pops boy, I wore a rubber.

      • tngal

I like him. He’s quirky. Plus, he’s correct in that while Palin does not subserviently endorse Romney per se, she does support anyone against Obama. Why is it that this time around when someone finds out there are others who do not fall head over heals in love with Romney they get their thongs in a twist. We might vote for Romney, but we won’t bow down.

(PS. Sorry about the thongs, Moe. Too much Olympics I guess)

So I’ll turn the account back on again, and note this: you get only one warning, tomjeffersonsghost. People read this site at work, or with their kids around. Don’t be crude like that.

  • jmike718

over something you saw on Buzzfeed? Seriously? Hope Perez Hilton doesn’t come out swinging. On another note, Ryan is a great pick. But why did Romney distance himself from the Ryan plan today ?

    • http://www4.webng.com/rickbull/lostlucky/ rickbull

this is Moe pointing out the leftist hackery of a “journalist” using irrelevant information from other sources to draw a picture that he wishes to reader to see, but that isn’t really there.

When Moe gets upset, the subject of his diary is left, at the end, with hair singed (if any hair is left) and tattered clothes hanging on him/her. This was simply Moe exposing hypocrisy.

Please do not mistake this for Moe’s being upset.

      • PowerToThePeople

        Not Moe.

        • http://www4.webng.com/rickbull/lostlucky/ rickbull

          a few up the line.

          Thanks for the correction, PTTP.

  • greyeagle

This lady and her family have been denigrated, trashed, and maligned. Frankly, I am getting very tired of it. She supports a candidate and usually the voters turn out. Sometimes she misses, but not often. She is a conservative voice and should be respected as such.

    • bluemount

of nastiness directed at Sarah Palin, and especially her children. She has courage in the face of all of it. Meanwhile, BHO complains about the media in a NYT article. Poor king-baby!!

  • Tbone

McCain proved to be a failure and in the last for years has had no influence on anything or anybody.

Obama has proved a failure, lost the House and hoards of Democrats don’t even want to be seen with him. He will lose his election and join Jimmy Carter in the bottom of the barrel.

Biden is at best a fool for which he will be remembered.

Palin has gotten rich, can draw thousands to a speech, has propelled and endorsed numerous winning candidates, raised tons of money, does pretty much as she pleases and it drive Becker nuts. :)

  • reclaimit

Paul Ryan is a serious politician. He’s built a steady voting record of voting along party lines and has never put himself above the party. I’m very excited about this choice. If anything, this election is going to now come down to a choice about the direction of this country, and I have no doubts America is going to see the benefits of cutting taxes and entitlements. I hope Ryan is unleashed in the next few months. He’s a breath of fresh air on this ticket.

  • Rich Fader

…that, judging from the last few years, there actually are people nominally on our side who are stupid and petty enough to say that sort of thing about Palin on background, and off the record, and occasionally even on the record. And in the nature of things, some of them are probably drawing paychecks as senior advisors on the Romney campaign.

  • teapartypatriot4ever

Those in the media are mostly all liberal, and especially the radical anti-American elements who control most all of the media complex management and decision making process in and from nationally broadcast TV news, prime time, late night, and daytime shows, to hollywood movies, to print newspaper media outlets, to some if not much in the internet and radio, and so on..

This is why they so much influence and power to propagandize, smear with lies, make false accusational innuendos, call racist and bigots, etc, aka their favorite radical alinky-ite tactic of projectionism, at anyone and everyone whom they do not like, and who does not follow their anti-American liberal socialist marxist views and ideology.. Such as all patriotic American Reagan Tea Party Conservatives like and especially Sarah palin, who in their eyes, must be torn down, aka personal destroyed and that includes her innocent family, with every radical hate filled vitriolic vile reprehensible saul alinsky tactic and weapon they can use against her, for she represents the exact opposite of them, US Constitutional Conservativism, Religious faith, American patriotism, and the traditional American spirit and way of life, all that they oppose and are against- ie; Republicans, Christians & religious people of all faiths, the US Military, Veterans, the BoyScouts and GirlScouts, the PTA, etc, aka America itself.

And in that other equation ingredient on the political side of the fence are the good ol by GOP establishment Republican RINOs-

It’s too bad the GOP establishment RINO right has never praised, let alone defended Gov Sarah Palin against the radical vitriolic vile vicious attacks against her and her innocent family. Her words of praise are more than they deserve.

The GOP establishment RINO right hates Reagan Tea Party Conservatives like Gov. Palin, more than the radical far left.. With friends like them, who needs enemies. We do all the ground work, win elections, and how do they respond, they either ignore us, or they sit along side their liberal counterpart buddies and spew attacks against Sarah Palin and all Tea Party Reagan Conservatives, day and night, 365 days a year. But regardless, and or in spite of them and their ungrateful arrogant contemptuous attitude, we will defeat this anti-American marxist racist Obama and his army of radical liberal thugs, cronies, henchmen and women on 6 Nov.?

The good ol boy GOP establishment RINOs do not deserve the support of all the Reagan Tea Party Conservatives. Worse of all, they do not even realize, let alone care about that fact.?
