One of the most common things you hear from a Trump fanatic is that the single most important thing this election is illegal immigration and that Donald Trump is the only candidate who is talking about building a wall and deporting everyone that's here illegally.
Trump has claimed that no one would be talking about illegal immigration had he not brought it up, which is of course complete nonsense. Even his own talking points dispute that. Trump has repeatedly referenced the ominous "Gang of 8" as a way of attacking Senator Marco Rubio's record since the proposed bill would've offered a path to citizenship for the illegals The Donald promises to kick out. The Gang of 8 bill was proposed in 2013 so if nothing else, we know immigration was a discussion 3 years ago.
Putting aside the fact that Donald proposes roughly the same wall that was already put forth in the Gang of 8 bill (roughly 1,000 miles), why hasn't anyone asked Mr. Trump why he sent so much money to the group?
The Gang of 8 is comprised of (obviously) 8 senators.
Sen. Michael Bennet, D-CO
Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-IL
Sen. Jeff Flake, R-AZ
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC
Sen. John McCain, R-AZ
Sen. Bob Menendez, D-NJ
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-FL
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY
And what did Trump expect to get for his money? Because don't forget, it was Trump that said he put money into candidates so he could get what he wanted. It was Trump that said he was part of the problem. His donation to Graham was in 2014, a year AFTER the Gang of 8 bill was proposed, so I guess he felt he got his money's worth.
Did he change his mind since he made these donations? Always possible. This is a guy whose entire persona is wrapped up in changing his mind on a whim. I wonder if it was around the same time he changed his mind on the idea that Romney lost the election because he was too hard on illegal immigration?
But back to the point, what credibility does Donald Trump have to criticize Rubio's membership in the Gang of 8? He was the Charlie to Graham's Jill Munroe. The Soros to Durbin's Media Matters. The financier. The puppeteer. He's the one that says his money purchased his power. What hath is power wrought? Support for what he now refers to as an amnesty bill i suppose.
He claims to be a chameleon. In actuality he's hiding in plain sight.
