Christie Vetoes Planned Parenthood Funding, Calls for Investigation

From the diaries by Jeff.

In the aftermath of the New Jersey Planned Parenthood sting, the question as to whether NJ Governor, Chris Christie, would take appropriate action against the organization has been answered.

Following the release of a video that has received nationwide attention showing Planned Parenthood staff at a New Jersey abortion center helping alleged sexual traffickers cover up their crimes with abortions and STD testing, Governor Chris Christie has vetoed a bill funding Planned Parenthood.

It is to be noted that this is, in fact, the second time Christie has yanked taxpayer funding of the organiztion. Planned Parenthood has already had to close clinics in NJ, due to the funding squeeze caused directly by Governor Christie.

Furthermore, Christie’s office referred the matter to the New Jersey attorney general – who is now calling for an investigation of the incident.

Some in Christie’s primary campaign against Lonegan questioned Christie’s commitment to pro-life principles, but so far Christie has pushed all the right buttons, even going so far as to speak at a pro-life rally on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Now he is hitting Planned Parenthood where it hurts: investigating their corrupt practices and squeezing their pocketbooks.

showing and killed all the lefty krap that has accrued in budgets, enormous savings would appear: Planned Parnethood, ACORN and Rock the Vote and the Rainbow Coalition and all the other lefty moneys*ckers that bleed tax monies into their plans to defeat democracy, all the arts programs (nationally the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities–which regularly throw grant money around for unemployed professors to spend a year in Japan comparing sushi to the movie Western or esconced in Alaska to devise an Eskimo math

It is pretty common knowledge around RS, that Senator Casey is not the brightest bulb in the Senate, but I was shocked when I called his DC office this morning to register my opinion against PP funding. The staff member who answered the phone argued that the 300+ million tax dollars going to PP do not support abortion, and was deaf to arguments about how government funds supporting contraception free other funds for reallocation to abortion. She also noted that “Senator Casey supports funding the birth control and education provided by Planned Parenthood because it helps prevent teen pregnancy” (or words to that effect).

I wouldn’t have been surprised if she had simply thanked me for my opinion and ended the conversation. Instead, she pushed back with what I felt was prepared text in support of PP funding. I take that as a Senator Casey endorsement of the exploitation of women.

Anyway, Pennsylvanians, here’s the office number in case you’d like to make your voice heard: (202) 224-6324.

…are taxpayers funding PP in the first place? Why have they ever funded PP? In this era of out of control spending and the entire country teetering on financial collapse why is funding an NGA even considered? This should have been the first budget line item stricken.

I agree with renny. Defund all these “pet projects” that aren’t producing any verifiable results and are helping to bleed taxpayers dry. And hold the Rs’ feet to the fire in the process.

Ack! Who’s going to run against Claire McCaskill in MO?

For bringing this up. This idiotic argument needs to be run down at every turn. The American people are capable of understanding that if you fund a criminal organization, you fund a criminal organization. You can’t just fund the “good things” that you allege the criminals are doing. It is such a moronic argument – and one which wil be repeated by the media of course. But one which a communicator like Reagan would destroy with a chuckle and an anology, and a wet noodle trucer would be afraid to discuss – becasue after all, supporting the sex slave trade is a divisive issue.

Which explains why I have a very real sense of disgust for all Democrats. You are known by the company you keep.

candidate from NJ. However, Gov. Christie is hitting all the right buttons, especially on life. That takes courage for him to do in NJ. If he were to come out and say that he thinks global warming is a fraud and that fossil fuels are the energy of today and nuclear energy is the energy source for tomorrow, sign me right the heck up!

and funding private piano lessons for a student in Harlem or providing local dance schools with tutus–all grants that have been made and all activities that should be paid for by private individuals with their own monies–

and the entire grant bonanza set up under the Johnson administration and that has grown like Topsy should be reviewed and eliminated. MOST of the Ed. Dept. budget is millions of pages of grants and all school systems today employ full-time administrators just to apply for grants–

let alone the entire Ed. Dept could go. It’s not constitutional.

What good is saving NJ if the rest of the country is in shambles?

You can be fiscal and social at the same time, please conservatives and libertarians, and watch the liberals and progressives scream. Does it get any better than this?

no need for a truce. They are the most reliable conservative, republican votes across the board of all issues and candidates.

Proof in point, evidence to the contrary of the stand that Daniels has taken.

Hiya! Sorry for the delay in responding. Attempted to do so earlier, but couldn’t get the comment to post. Anyhow, I signed up for Red State a few months ago, but have been lurking since then. I hope to post at least semi-regularly. Thanks for the welcome!

You think you know something about him ie: he is a deficit cutter and he is, taking it to the unions who cost the government the most. You think he is pro-life but he doesn’t bang the drum for you to hear, so you pick on him for not being as loud on that issue and yet he utilizes the deficit and bad behavior to make the cuts that will sustain the life of the unborn and the born citizens of NJ!

I always wondered why PP felt they couldn’t survive without tax dollars if abortions were in such demand, it appears that the demand to MURDER babies is only there when the government pays for it.

      Agree 100%.

    and I was met with… (crickets,crickets).

Now we get to watch the outrage ensue, when we take away their money.

    Great job, Gov. Christie!!

something our dictator in chief has never heard of.

Christie feels he was elected to straighten out NJ and he owes NJ a full term to tackle all of our bitter problems.

Additionally, Christie feels he is new to elective politics and not ready to run for national office, a feeling our king-elect and his narcissistic ego and ideological mania has never perceived in his most self-searching or humble fleeting, ephemeral instant.

  • itrytobenice

    I love that fat man.

  • Lori Jeffries

I love this guy. I wish he would run for President.

  • hoosierteacher

I know he isn’t going to run now, but Christi and Pence would be my immediate picks for president.

I already think he’s the leading (and most vocal) advocate for slashing spending and kicking unions at the gubenatorial level, but now he’s kicking social liberals in the teeth too.

Imagine if every state could have a Christi!

    • lineholder

is that there are plenty on the R side of the fence that we do have who are capable of doing more but refuse to take the stand.

I hope at some point they will begin to feel the shame of it, that they have failed our nation by their complacency.

      • hoosierteacher

My governor (Mitch Daniels) just told conservatives to hit the “mute button” on social issues, and said our issues are a “rabbit hole”. He doesn’t confront unions like Christi (in fact, he’s blocking a right to work bill from hitting the floor along with our state speaker of the house), and hasn’t cut funding to planned parenthood like Christi.

Daniels is pretty good on some issues, but because he only plays half of the game, he isn’t a star in my book.

f a few individuals assisted sex traffickers they should face the full extent of the law. A few individuals crime is not the whole PP organization. God is crying because our society as a whole has made being pro-choice a pre request to being pro-life. Taxpayers are crying for supporting all the anchor babies and the 35% of FY 2011 budget being spent on Health & Welfare. The more the merrier is usually only proclaimed by the Liberals.

Thank you, Gov. Christie. Thank you for standing up for the laws of this nation. Thank for refusing to reinforce the position that this kind of lawlessness is acceptable. Thank for you refusing to support it with taxpayer’s hard-earned money.

Thank you as well for the lives of all children, born or yet to be born.

May many others seriously consider following the example you have set by proving that we are first a nation of laws.

  • chihank

For the past years, even conservative Christian Governors shyied away from cutting funds from Planned Parenthood due a fear of pro-abortion activists accusing conservatives of being against all healthcare for women. Planned Parenthood should not be given a dime of tax payer fund. Kudos to Christie.

  • runner12

There is a lot that I like about this guy. If only he would give up his big government environmental views, there would be little I would disagree with him on!

I hope other governors will follow suit and defund PP. It should have been done a long time ago.
