Donations Pour In to Help Black College Playing at Inauguration

Talladega College, a small college in Alabama that is historically black, found themselves subject to backlash after their marching band agreed to play at Donald Trump’s inauguration. The Tornados marching band needed to raise $75,000 to send the The to Washington, DC for the event, and things were looking grim.

“Some alumni have come at me pretty hard; they don’t want the band to participate and say I am a disgrace to my race,” school president Billy C. Hawkins told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. “But this is about the students having an opportunity to participate in this national ceremony.” After appearing on O’Reilly, they have now raised more than $645,000 as supporters rushed to help them after hearing what had happened.
