Blind Squirrel Moment: CNN's Fareed Zakaria Levels Leftist Hypocrisy for Backlash Over Ronna McDaniel

You hear the phrase "like a blind squirrel finding a nut" thrown around so often, it is in danger of losing its meaning. But there was a moment on Friday evening where it fit perfectly. It happened during the latest episode of HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher," and came from an unexpected source--CNN host Fareed Zakaria.

During the appearance, Zakaria, whom no one will likely ever mistake for a conservative journalist, somehow managed to nail progressives and Democrats on their hypocrisy, during a segment over the backlash about NBC News hiring former Republican National Committee (RNC) chair Ronna McDaniel.

At the beginning of the segment, Maher cracked a lame joke about McDaniel, which got a cheap laugh from the audience and the panel guests. But then he said that the NBC-McDaniel "saga gets to a fundamental question" about what he continues to call "the liberal media":

NBC News hires her, because people are always saying to news organizations, "You're liberal, let's hear the other voices," and it's not an invalid thing to say. So, they hire this Ronna McDaniel, but she was an election denier when she worked for Trump, and has since changed her tune.

Okay, this is the problem: how do you represent this large part of the country that does not believe the election was legitimate.

We don't call them liberal, since they're out and out progressive. But we'll get back to that in a minute.

Before tossing the question of how to "include" those Americans to the panel, Maher drops an insult about those people's intelligence level. It got little to no audience reaction, which was surprising.

This was the moment when the incredible happened: Zakaria just leveled leftists with example after example of times they have waved away the similar words and behavior of Democrat politicians--while also pointing out their glaring issue with free speech.

Watch (starting at 1:12):

He said, "I think the point here is, liberals are meant to believe in free speech. That is one of the foundational values of liberalism."

Then he laid out that Republicans don't have a monopoly on being dishonest; notables on his list included Bill Clinton and leftist media darling Stacey Abrams. I'm still in shock here. Go ahead and watch the rest, as Zakaria dings Democrats for using dirty tactics, justifying to themselves that the ends justify the means.

Like with Bill Maher, who sometimes gets something right about his side, this is a momentary blip. Some things are so self-evident, they have to be said.

But what about Maher doggedly returning to defending the Democrats, over and over again? What exactly is his problem? One of Maher's longtime friends, comedian-actor Rob Schneider, thinks he knows the answer--there's a "blind spot" about the true nature of the modern Democrat Party:
