Remote Border Crossing Sees All Male Surge of Migrants From All Over the World

As 2024 approaches, America is steeling herself for what we can only hope is the final year of the Biden administration and, with it, the chaos and complete disaster that is the southern border. In Fiscal Year 2023 alone, there have been 2.4 million illegal immigrant encounters along the border. But in recent days and weeks, one border crossing has seen a record number of crossings. While that might sound like a description of many other border crossings, the characteristics of this particular surge should be alarming to all Americans. Are we closer to what might be the dire consequences of Joe Biden's open border policies?

Lukeville, Arizona is a remote border crossing, a very small town, not much more than a spot in the road. But it has become a popular destination for migrants. But this group of migrants is decidedly different. It has been made up of entirely single adult military-age males — not a woman or child to be seen. They are coming not just from Mexico or Central America. Many of them are coming from African countries like Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, and Egypt. Others are from the Middle East. This has caused U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to reduce vehicle processing at the Lukeville crossing. The nearby Tucson Sector has seen a record number of migrant crossings, 3,000 in a single day and 17,500 in a single week.

The migrants are arriving at the Lukeville crossing in curious ways. One man said that he paid $10,000 to a smuggler to get from Mauritania to Columbia. They also have definite destinations in mind. A man from Guinea said that should he be released into the U.S., he would be traveling to New York City. Others were skipping processing altogether and were seen literally slipping through the cracks of the border wall that federal contractors were repairing.

The Tucson Sector and Lukeville sit in Rep. Juan Ciscomani's (R-AZ) district. He asked Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to recommend deploying the Arizona National Guard to the area to the Pentagon, and also wrote a letter to Mayorkas saying,

"Tucson Sector is leading in encounters and our agents and officers are overrun and undermanned. The situation is far past a breaking point and those on the frontlines of this crisis are in need of immediate support."

The Border Patrol Union has put the blame for the mess at the border where it rightly belongs, at the feet of the Biden administration. They called the uptick in border crossings in Lukeville a result of the Biden administration's "open invitation" to enter the country illegally. The National Border Patrol Council's Art Del Cueto defended Border Patrol agents, saying, "It takes a toll on the men and women [of Border Patrol] that are out there putting their lives on the line each and every day."

The male-only surge of migrants from around the world, some from terror-sponsoring nations, comes as FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday. Among some of the most disturbing information he gave Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) about the various threat levels facing the nation, he stated, "I've never seen a time where all the threats or so many of the threats are all elevated, all at exactly the same time." Graham then asked him, "Are you concerned that international terrorism threats to the homeland are rising as the border continues to be broken?" Wray replied,

"I am concerned that we are in an elevated threat environment, a heightened threat environment, from foreign terrorist organizations — for a whole host of reasons..."

Let's add to what FBI Director Wray should also be concerned about, and that is the largest number of Chinese illegal immigrants coming into the country in at least ten years. So, to sum up, at a remote border crossing, there has been a sharp increase in crossings. The people that are crossing are entirely adult military-age males with no women or children. We are entering a busy holiday season where more Americans are out and about, and the FBI Director says that he has never seen a time where all threats to the country are all elevated. What could possibly go wrong?
