Joe Biden Is the Only Democrat on the Primary Ballot in Three States Because 'Democracy!'

If you ask the Democrats, the last few weeks have been banner weeks for "democracy." The Colorado Supreme Court barred former President Donald Trump's name from appearing on the ballot in that state. Then, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows unilaterally decided that Trump would not appear on the ballot there either. But while Democrats are busy kicking Republican candidates off of ballots because they are afraid of letting the people decide their candidates, it appears that no candidates, Democrat or Republican, can rest assured their name will be on every state's ballot if Democrats have anything to say about it. If you are a Democrat running against Joe Biden in a primary and you expect to see your name on every state ballot, well, think again.

For Democrats, removing their own candidates from state ballots equals democracy. In North Carolina, as of December 19, Joe Biden is the only Democrat on the ballot for that state's March 5 primary election. The North Carolina Board of Elections made Biden the sole Democrat candidate after the North Carolina Democrat Party requested that Biden be the only candidate listed. In Florida, Democrats took it one step further and scrapped the entire primary altogether. They submitted Biden as the only candidate for the 2024 ballot. Also, in Tennessee, Joe Biden is the only Democrat name on the primary ballot.

As might be expected, other Democrat candidates are rightly crying foul. Marianne Williamson voiced her frustration with the Democrat party on X, saying:

“We are disappointed that the North Carolina Board of Elections abdicated their authority to protect North Carolina voters from the North Carolina Democratic State Party’s attempt to circumvent democracy."

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) called his party out on their blatant hypocrisy, saying:

“Democrats suppressing competition, suppressing voters, and suppressing debate. In America. Coronating an unelectable candidate and disenfranchising voters enables the erosion of democracy itself.”

What is shaping up to be interesting primary practices for Democrats has the party all over the place in terms of both primary rules and candidates. In New Hampshire, Biden will not appear on the primary ballot after Democrats attempted to remove Iowa and New Hampshire as the first in the nation states to hold primaries in favor of South Carolina — a possible payback move for jumpstarting Biden's 2020 campaign. Biden wanted the change, stating, “We must ensure that voters of color have a voice in choosing our nominee much earlier in the process and throughout the entire early window.” Although with his poll numbers in the tank among minority voters, the move might not pay off the way the Biden campaign thinks it will.

Even with his disastrous record, the Democrat National Committee (DNC) decided Joe Biden was their guy a while back. Early in 2023, the DNC announced there would be no Democrat Primary debates. Biden's increasingly gaffe-prone appearances may be a good part of the reason why. But the DNC's cheerleading for Biden has already been the reason Biden's closest rival, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., dropped out of the Democrat field to run as an Independent. That move to becoming an Independent has been hampered, most likely to the delight of Democrats, by Kennedy's ability to get his name on ballots. He announced on Wednesday that he would be on the ballot in Utah, but his fight in other states continues.

But for Democrats, Trump isn't the only Republican they are trying to remove from the ballot. In Pennsylvania, a lawsuit has been filed to disqualify Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) from holding office using the same 14th Amendment being used against Trump, attempting to brand Perry an "insurrectionist" as well. Democrats' new rule of thumb seems to be "if you can't beat 'em, kick 'em off the ballot."

Once again, when it comes to Democrats, oh, the irony of it all. In his new campaign ad, Biden talks about "saving democracy" being the centerpiece of his presidency and proceeds to call everyone who doesn't agree with him "extremists. Because when you get right down to it, nothing says "saving democracy" like insulting half the country, taking the election out of the hands of voters, and it all that doesn't work, just removing candidates you don't like from the ballot. Yeah, that oughta do the trick.
