Let’s Attack Christine O’Donnell’s LinkedIn Page!

Christina Bellantoni, who I’ve been told is the most fair person working at TPM, has a real stretch of an attack on Christine O’Donnell today which uses the candidate’s LinkedIn page to suggest she lied about where she attended school.

Yet there’s a real flaw with this argument. Depending on when O’Donnell created her LinkedIn profile, at one point you could only enter educational programs that were in the LinkedIn system. And even today, you have to hard-code in the text for places like Claremont, which are not recognized Institutions or Companies, but exist only as search terms in their system.

For example, here’s what comes up when you search for “Claremont Institute” — a keyword page of people who use the phrase in their profiles. And for comparison, here’s the company page that comes up for Claremont Graduate University.

You see the obvious difference. If O’Donnell typed “Claremont,” CGU’s the first option that pops up — and the Institute is not even a listed option. Same with the program she went through at the University of Oxford.

I had the same issue arise for a University of Virginia program I went through. I am a graduate of an public policy institute run through UVA, but I ended up deleting it from the Education section of my profile because when I added it, I discovered LinkedIn automatically stuck “University of Virginia” in my Education listing. Since a month-long course is hardly the same as a degree, I just stuck the mention in the bullet-point section — O’Donnell obviously didn’t do that, but that’s her choice. And if you scroll down, you’ll see that nowhere in O’Donnell’s profile does she claim to have a graduate degree — she just lists the program she participated in (accurately) for both Claremont and the program held at the University of Oxford. She never claims to have received a degree from either institution, and the brief listing on her profile — “University of Oxford – Post Modernism in the New Millennium” — practically screams “summer program.”

There are plenty of other things to go after O’Donnell for, but this one seems cheap and shoddy. Anyone who’s viewed the profiles of someone with a listed academic fellowship or as a graduate of a summer program knows this is a minor glitch in the way LinkedIn displays content. Bellantoni lists no such institutes or extracurricular studies in her profile, so perhaps she doesn’t even know that this is the case. There’s no indication in her piece that she bothered to check before typing the headline “Christine O’Donnell Lies About Attending Oxford University.”

They would rather take “cheap and shoddy” shots at their opponents than enter into the world of real debate about real ideas. Of course, that is because they know they cannot compete in the world of ideas, and they delight so in trashing people they disagree with. So, since they cannot think, or understand facts when presented with them, cheap and shoddy is all they have left.

it takes a long time to die and many will read and believe what they have seen. Christine Bellantoni, can come back anytime and make an apology but she knows that the damage has already been done. The left will stop at nothing to gain what they want.

If it impugns the their opponent, the left doesn’t check it. If it compliments their opponent, they squash it. Introduction by innuendo then a delay and a subsequent, and later retraction. Where have we seen this before?

If you recognize this as a problem you too old to understand that things like this NOT matter! Modern Web design is only is concerned with making the content look like London Subway car, accurate data cost too much and do not interest very much advertisers.

Christine ODonnell is bright, well spoken, fun, everything Democrats claim to be, but are not. I think they are terrified of her. Keep smiling and being yourself and when you walk into your new office after the election, you will have run the gauntlet to success.

Anybody that thinks about going into politics knows they will dig through your underwear looking for surprises. Once elected it never matters again…for liberals. Been in Viet Nam? Oh…just a little white lie. Cigars with the interns? Never had sex with that woman! The meaning of “is” is really that neither party is holding to the Constitution and only wants to buy votes to get their power and we’re totally hosed until we force a return to Constitutional values. Why argue about entitlements when YOU can force government to report their “income, redistributed” the same as our earned income. Institute a new IRS Form 1099-GOV and all levels of government that are scrapping the sweat off our backs will become transparent quickly.

I?m neither pro or con in this situation. I only say that if you in office, you should read the legislation (obviously we know that many have not). If you are running for office, you should read what you personally have typed. She is creating a resume/profile and didn?t bother to see what she said about herself? Will she be that sloppy if elected?

Either you skimmed the article only looking for keywords that would propel you to write what you did, or you did not read it at all and just rushed to stick your two cents in.

The poster clearly stated the downside to the site and the difficulty in trying to accurately convey what type of education you have and where it was from. He clearly explained the default settings that occur when the system does not recognize an offshoot education program, yet you missed it all.

Try keeping up next time or at least be honest in your response and just state you hate the old witch up there in Delaware. The rest of us will laugh at the idiotic attacks by the lady and move on to writing a check to push Christine past the finish line.

      • faym

Try keeping up yourself there. I did read the entire article- many times. You apparently did not read the post. I’ll say it again for those of you too slow to keep up: I am neither for nor against the candidate.
To paraphrase Glen Beck: a) Either she lied to us about her credentials -which I do NOT beleive that she did. I agree that it is the left taking cheap shots. or b) She did not take the time to see what she had said about herself. We should expect our elected leaders to understand what they vote on, and am concerned that she did not bother to proof read what she said about herself and wonder if this sloppiness is an indication of more to come.

what are you doing here, spreading your ignorance around a little?

I’m a pretty easy guy. I have no problem with the fact that you obviously been wasting oxygen and creating methane, but wasting bandwidth? Not good.

        • powertothepeople

keep up grasshopper. Repeating the same nonsense will not make your appear smart, it will simply allow everyone to see the fool.

Now you can retype it again, or you can try to understand what the poster stated and the difficulties he expressed about that particular site.

Now run along, as the esteemed poster Tbone stated, you are wasting bandwidth.

I slammed Bellantoni under my Twitter name Juggernauzt, any first year reporter or journalist should have known the resume was fake. Why would O’Donnell recently create a resume in Philly when she’s running for office in Delaware………jeese.

Anyone with half a brain and integrity should see the obvious and question the source. Fact is the resume is FAKE and the media hacks failed to comprehend the obvious or were they part of the SCAM?

Bottom line is neither candidate has national experience in politics but O’Donnell is clearly smarter and capable of doing better than a buffoon who went to Africa and came back only to turn on his nation seeing MARXISM as superior to CAPITALISM. Chris Coons should run for office in Africa because he’s only a county commissioner, rofl and he thinks marxism is the future of the USA……………………what a laugh.

because they asked for his birth certificate or he couldn’t stay.

The voters see that all Christine’s opponents have are total non-issue made up stuff like this, each time they attack her falsely and she easily explains what the truth is, it discredits all other past and future attacks against her, it shows them for the falsehoods they are. That explains how she went up 7 points in the latest poll, and she’s going to keep gaining in the polls and win decisively on election day!
