I am ahsamed to have been so ignorant re: howTexas government works. The very fact that he chose a liberal Dem as well as a liberal pub for chairs of Ways and Means and Appropriations and that these folks have kept bills from coming to the floor shows how crucial this fight is!
Thanks RS for the help and the ammunition.

How to Pick the Texas House Speaker

Freedoms Truth (Diary) Thursday, November 18th at 6:02PM EDT (link)

The #1 thing anyone in Texas following this needs to know – The Republicans have NOT in the past had a party caucus to select the Speaker nominee. This MUST happen if we want a good speaker:

“To have a productive session, the House Speaker must be supported by the majority of the House Republican caucus. To ensure this, the Republican House members should caucus and decide on a nominee for House Speaker.”

I hope Texas does a better job with this than Tennessee

Today the Tennessee GOP caucus met to vote for their nominee for House Speaker. The GOP has a 64-34-1 majority in the House. Given the choice between a solid conservative (Glen Casada) and a moderate squish who voted against a number of 2nd amendment bills; thinks there may be a place for a state income tax in Tennessee; voted for the democrat in her senate district; etc. (Beth Harwell), our elected Republicans chose the moderate squish. With the support of the state party and the urging of the Gov. elect, himself somewhat of a moderate squish. Ugh. Politics as usual. These idiots did not learn one single thing from the election 2 weeks ago. They voted today against the will of the people. In fact, the caucus vote was moved UP by a month because “we the people” were starting to hear rumors of deal making to support the moderate squish, and they wanted to have the vote before the momentum grew to the point that they were going to have to start paying attention.

Clunk…clunk…clunk… (The sound of me knocking my head into a brick wall). So, good luck Texas. Please do a better job with this than the state of your ancestry!
